Overview

The Rinnai Portable Room Air Conditioner (Models: RPC26WA, RPC35WA, RPC41WA) is a versatile appliance designed to provide cooling, dehumidifying, and fan-only operation for indoor spaces. This manual outlines its installation, operation, and maintenance, emphasizing safety and optimal performance.

Function Description:

The Rinnai Portable Room Air Conditioner offers three primary operational modes:

  • COOL (Chilled Air Operation): This mode provides active cooling, allowing users to set a desired temperature between 16°C and 32°C and select a fan speed (LOW, MED, or HIGH).
  • DRY (Dehumidifying Operation): In this mode, the appliance chills and dehumidifies the air, also allowing temperature selection between 16°C and 32°C.
  • FAN (Fan Only Operation): This mode circulates air without cooling, offering selectable fan speeds (LOW, MED, or HIGH).

A notable feature is the SLEEP Function, which intelligently adjusts the set temperature over a 10-hour period to maintain comfort and save energy. After 10 hours, the appliance resumes normal operation. The appliance also stores the most recent basic operational settings in its memory, which are available upon restart if the unit remains connected to the mains power supply.

The appliance is fitted with a 1.2m flexible 2-pin cord, suitable for connection to an Australian 10 Amp socket outlet (220-240V 50Hz). The maximum exhaust duct extension is 1.8m.

Usage Features:

The appliance features a user-friendly control panel with indicators for fan speed, mode, temperature display, and various functions like TIMER, SLEEP, and SWING. Temperature settings can be adjusted using dedicated buttons, and fan speed can be selected from LOW, MED, or HIGH. The ON/OFF button controls the appliance's power.

For installation, the unit requires a minimum clearance of 500mm from walls or other appliances and must be placed on a flat, dry surface with easy access to a power point. The air outlets and ducting system must not be obstructed.

Duct Assembly: The exhaust duct (extends to 1.8m) connects to the appliance via a duct-to-unit adaptor and can be fitted with either a window exhaust duct adaptor or a wall exhaust adaptor. Window Installations: An adjustable window slide kit (minimum 675mm, maximum 1250mm) is provided to fit most standard vertical and horizontal window applications. Foam draft sealing strip is recommended for optimal sealing. Semi-Permanent Wall Installation: A wall flange kit is supplied for semi-permanent wall installations, which must be completed by an authorised person in compliance with local building codes and OH&S guidelines.

Condensate Drainage: The appliance has an inbuilt condensate tank. When the tank reaches capacity, the "P1" code will appear on the display, and the unit will stop operating. Users must drain the condensate water via the Drain Tray Outlet (12) into a shallow tray (at least 1 litre volume). Alternatively, a fixed condensate drain hose (20) can be attached to either Drain Outlet 1 (7) or Drain Tray Outlet (12) for continuous drainage into a drain tray or waste outlet. It's crucial that the drainage point is lower than the outlet point. The condensate is not potable.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance and longevity.

  • General Cleaning: After each cooling season, exterior panels and the display should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: Air filters should be checked weekly during heavy use, or every 2-3 weeks for intermittent use. There are two filters: one behind the Room Air Intake Grill (9) and another behind the Lower Air Intake (10).
    • To clean, remove the grills (pull down top tab for (9), use Philips head screwdriver for (10)), un-clip the filters, and clean them with a vacuum cleaner or warm water (not hotter than 40°C). If dirt is stubborn, use lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Ensure filters are dry before re-attaching.
    • Failure to clean filters regularly can lead to excessive condensation and reduced efficiency. Replacement filters can be obtained from Rinnai.
  • Storage: For prolonged storage, remove plugs and hoses from drain outlets (7), (8), and (12).
  • Safety Precautions: Always turn off power before performing maintenance. Do not use solvents, alcohol, or harsh cleaners on the appliance or filters.

Troubleshooting (Save a Service Call):

The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues:

  • Appliance not operating: Check power plug, power switch, and timer function.
  • Power to appliance but not starting: Allow 3-minute delay after switching off, adjust set temperature if room temperature is lower.
  • "P1" on display: Drain condensate water.
  • Not enough cool air: Clean air intake filters, adjust set temperature lower, close windows/doors, remove other heat sources, ensure cooling space is within capacity.
  • Noisy/vibrating: Move appliance to a level surface.
  • Splashing sound: Normal, due to internal pump evaporating condensate through the exhaust duct.

When to Call for Service:

Contact Rinnai if there's a burning smell, strange sounds, or if a circuit breaker is tripped or a fuse blown during operation. The appliance should only be serviced by Rinnai or an appointed service agent. Rinnai recommends servicing the appliance at least every 2 years.
