The River Quiver is a rooftop fly rod holder designed for securely transporting and protecting fishing rods on vehicles. It is available in two main configurations: a 4-Banger and a 2-Banger, referring to the number of rods it can hold. The device is built and tested to high standards to ensure secure transport, but it is not intended as a long-term storage solution.
Function Description:
The primary function of the River Quiver is to provide a safe and convenient way to transport fly fishing rods on the roof of a vehicle. It allows rods to be kept rigged and ready for use, eliminating the need to break them down and reassemble them at each fishing location. The "Locked. Loaded. Ready to Fish." tagline emphasizes its ease of use and security. The quick-release mounts facilitate easy installation and removal from vehicle crossbars.
Important Technical Specifications:
The River Quiver utilizes 6mm coupler bolts for joining the halves of the unit. The quick-release mounts feature a T-stud that inserts into a T-slot on the River Quiver body, allowing for secure attachment. Each set of quick-release mounts includes one locking mount and one "dummy lock" mount for added security. The mounts incorporate a strap tension adjustment bolt and a latch tab to ensure a tight grip on vehicle crossbars.
Usage Features:
- Mount Assembly: The quick-release mounts are designed for straightforward assembly. The T-stud of the mount is inserted into the T-slot of the River Quiver body.
- Flipping Over River Quiver (LP T-Track Mounts): For vehicles with lower profile LP T-Track Mounts, it may be necessary to flip the River Quiver upside down to prevent the reel box from hitting the roof. If flipped, the Riversmith dome tag on the reel box can be removed and reapplied to read right side up. The River Quiver stickers on the front half of the extrusions should also read right side up.
- Preparing Vehicle: Before assembly, users should measure from the center of the front crossbar to the estimated location of the reel box. It is recommended to spread vehicle crossbars as far apart as possible.
- If the distance is 65 inches or less, both quick-release mounts will be positioned on the reel box side of the coupler.
- If the distance is more than 65 inches, one quick-release mount will be placed on each half of the River Quiver, which is the preferred installation when possible.
- If the reel box touches the vehicle's roof, the unit should be flipped upside down.
- Joining the Halves: The River Quiver halves are joined on a flat surface using upper and lower couplers and coupler bolts. A 4mm hex wrench is used to tighten all bolts evenly, ensuring equal tension on the collar. Users are cautioned not to overtighten to avoid damage.
- Placing on Vehicle: The River Quiver is placed on the vehicle, optimizing its side-to-side and front-to-back position, while monitoring for interference with rear hatches or doors. The positions where the quick-release mounts will attach to the vehicle crossbars should be marked.
- Tightening Mounts: After marking, the quick-release mounts are removed from the vehicle and rotated clockwise until secure and parallel with the extrusion, aligning with the previously made marks. This process is repeated for each mount, with a warning against overtightening.
- Tightening Tension Straps: The River Quiver is then placed back on the vehicle, aligning the quick-release mounts with the crossbars. The tension bolt for each strap is adjusted with a 4mm hex wrench until the latch tab can be turned down with secure tension around the crossbars. Once secured, the locking mounts are locked with the provided key. Users should check for security and function after installation and avoid overtightening.
