6 Maintenance
6.1 General
Regular inspection and maintenance of the HPSU compact reduces energy consumption and ensures a long life and smooth
operation.
Legal requirements
In terms of the F-gases regulations (EU) No. 842/2006 Article 3, operators (or owners) must service their fixed-installation
refrigerant units at regular intervals, check for leaks and rectify any possible leaks within as short a period as possible.
All maintenance and repair work on the refrigeration circuit must be documented in the operating manual. This obligation is based
on the regulations concerning fluoridated greenhouse gases published in the official EU journal on 14th June 2006.
Operators of ROTEX heat pump systems are subject to the following obligations:
•With a total coolant fill weight of 3 kg - 30 kg or over 6 kg in hermetically sealed systems:
Î Checks by certified personnel at intervals of no more than 12 months.
•With a total coolant fill weight of 30 kg – 300 kg:
Î Checks by certified personnel at intervals of no more than 6 months (with existing leak detection systems at intervals
of no more than 12 months).
•With a total coolant fill weight of >300 kg:
Î Checks by certified personnel at intervals of no more than 6 months. A leak detection system is required for this fill
weight.
• Compulsory documentation (maintenance and leak test) in the operating manual, stating type and amount of filled-in or
recovered refrigerant and the applied test method (in accordance with EC No. 1516/2007). Operator must keep
documentation for at least five years after compiling it and show it to the responsible authority upon request.
• Responsibility of the operator of systems for the recycling of F-gases by certified personnel.
Have the inspection and maintenance carried out by authorised and trained HVAC engineers once a year, ideally
before the heating period. This will avoid malfunctions during the heating period.
ROTEX recommends an inspection and maintenance contract to ensure regular inspection and maintenance.
A total overall coolant fill of less than 3 kg is not subject to any European legal requirement concerning inspection
intervals. However, ROTEX would recommend entering into a maintenance contract and recording the work
carried out in the operating manual in order to preserve guarantee claims.
Certified persons are those possessing an expert certificate for work on fixedly installed cooling systems
(heat pumps) and air-conditioning units in the European region in accordance with the F-Gases Decree (EU)
No. 842/2006.
– total overall coolant weight up to 3 kg: expert certificate Category 2
– total overall coolant weight in excess of 3 kg: expert certificate Category 1
