CLEANING AIR FILTER
See gure 28.
A dirty air lter will cause starting difculty, loss of
performance, and shorten the life span of the engine.
Check the air lter monthly. For best performance, replace
the air lter at least once a year.
■ Loosen the air filter cover by turning the knob
counterclockwise.
■ Remove the foam air filter.
■ Clean the foam filter element with warm soapy water.
Rinse and let dry.
NOTE: If the foam filter element is damaged, it should
be replaced.
■ Apply a light coat of engine oil to the foam filter
element, then squeeze it out.
■ Reinstall the air filter.
NOTE: Make sure the lter is seated properly inside the
cover. Installing the lter incorrectly will allow dirt to enter
the engine, causing rapid engine wear.
■ Reinstall the cover and tighten knob to secure.
CHECKING THE FUEL CAP
WARNING
A leaking fuel cap is a re hazard and must be replaced
immediately.
The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable lter and a
check valve. A clogged fuel lter will cause poor engine
performance. If performance improves when the fuel cap
is loosened, check valve may be faulty or lter clogged.
Replace fuel cap if required.
REPLACING THE SPARK PLUG
See gure 30
This engine uses a Champion RCJ6Y or NGK BPMR7A
spark plug with .025 in. electrode gap. Use an exact
replacement and replace annually.
Follow these steps to replace the spark plug.
1. Remove the spark plug boot (item 64).
2. Loosen the spark plug (item 65) by turning it
counterclockwise with a 16 mm socket.
3. Remove the spark plug.
4. Hand thread the new spark plug, turning it clockwise.
NOTE: A small amount of anti seize compound on the
thread of the new plug will ensure easy removal on the
next service.
5. Tighten with a socket. Do not overtighten.
CAUTION
Be careful not to cross-thread the spark plug. Cross-
threading will seriously damage the engine.
STORING THE PRODUCT
See gure 29.
■ Clean all foreign material from the product. Store
idle unit indoors in a dry, well-ventilated area that is
inaccessible to children. Keep away from corrosive
agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.
■ Abide by all local regulations for the safe storage and
handling of petrol.
■ Always place the scabbard on the saw bar when
transporting or storing the pruner. The scabbard is a
snug fit and must be attached very carefully due to
the sharp teeth on the saw chain. This is best done by
grasping the scabbard at one end, in the center portion
of the scabbard, and carefully sliding it over the chain
as shown. Use caution to avoid the sharp teeth of the
chain.
NOTE: The saw chain is very sharp. Always wear
protective gloves when handling the chain.
■ To use the hanger cap, push in the shaft locator button
and place the hanger cap over end of the attachment
shaft. Slightly rotate the cap from side to side until the
button locks into place.
When storing 1 month or longer:
■ Drain all fuel from tank into a container approved for
petrol. Run engine until it stops.
