Do

Should
the
system
not
be
provided

the
starter

engi
ne
or
the
pinion
have
come
to
rest, as o

erwise
damage
wil

be
caused
to
pin
ion
and
gear
rim.
If
the
eng
ine does n
ot
star
t
after
some
starti
ng
atte
mpts,
further
start
in
g
attempts
w
ill
serve
no
purpose
and
wil
l on
ly
lead
to
exhaustion
of
the
ba
tt
ery. The
fault
shou
ld
be
sought
and
remed
i
ed
(check
the
fuel
supply
in
particular
).
Maintenance
Danger
of
short
circuits arises
when
work
is
carried
out
on
th
e e
lectrica
l _
components
of
th
e
built
-in
starter.
It
is
therefore
strong
ly
recommended,
before
carrymg
out
such
work,
that
th
e
eart
h l
ead
be
disco
nnected
fro
m the
bat
t
er
y.
Do
n
ot
place
tools
on
th
e
battery!
Carbon
brushes
The
condit
i
on
of
the
carbon
brushes should
be
checked
periodically.

the

the

e
spring
which
pre
sses
the
relevant
carbon
brush
on
to
the
commut
at
or
should
be
raised
,
preferably
with
a
hook
(take
care
not
to
bend
sp
ring
to
one si
de
and
n
ot
to
raise
it
l
onger
than
necessary).
No
w check
that
th
e
carbon
brushes can easily be
moved
in
their
guides
in the brush
holder
.
The c
arbon
br
ushes
and
brush
ho
lders must
be
kept
fre
e
of
dust,
oil
and
grease.
If
these
parts
are
dirty
or
jam,
they
s
houl
d
be
cleaned
wi
th
a
clean
gasoline
-
damped
rag
(
not
with
was
te
woo
l, as this
easily
sheds
fibres)
and
we
ll
dried.
Do
not
sa
ndpaper,
fi
le
or
use knives
on
the
brigh
t
gr
ound
su
rface
of
the
carbon
brushes.

If
a
carbon
brush
is
broken,
unsoldered
or
so
worn
that
the
spring
or
the sol
dered-i
n s
trand
in
the

sh
is
in

nger

er,
then
it

ould
be
replaced.
