LAYING-UP THE ENGINE
If
the
engine
is
not
used
for
a
fairly
long
time (e.
g.
in
summer),
there
is a
danger
of
rusting.
In
such
cases
the
follo
wi
ng
precautions
should
be
taken
to
protect
t
he
e
ngine
:
1. Mix
the
fuel with a
running
-in
and
anti-corrosion
oil in 25 : 1
proportion
and
run
the
engine
on
this
mixture
f
or
a
short
time.
Use
oils
with
a
viscosity
grade
SAE
30
as
supplied
by
leading
oil
companies
(e.
g.
ENSIS O il 30
ava
i
lable
fro
m
SHELL)
.
After
the
last
run
before
laying-up,
the
engine
should
be
stopped
at
full
op
e
rating
speed
by
means
of
the
short
-
circuiting
button,
while
the
choke
on
the
ca
rbure
ttor
should
be
kept
closed.
When
the
engine
has
stopped,
close
the
fuel
tap.
These
pre-
cautions
will
adequately
protect
t
he
crankshaft,
connecting
rod
and
main
beari
ngs
ago
i
nst
corrosion.
2. To
protect
the
cylinder
and
the
piston,
place
the
pist
on
at
top
dead
cent
er,
unscrew
the
sparking
plug
and
pour
3 ... 5
cc
(0
.106

0.176 fl. oz.)
of
anti
-
cor
rosio
n oil
through
the
sparking
plug
hole.
Then
turn
the
engine

by
means
of
the
sta
rter
and
screw
in
the
spark
plug
.
3. To

, it is

ded
that
anti-corrosion

be
used
as
supplied

the

oil

the

ngine
is laid
up
for
more
than
six
month
s with fuel in
the
tank,
separat

on
of
the
gasoline
and
oil in
the
fuel
mixture
may
occur
.
In
such
cases
we
strongly
recommend
mixing
the
two
constituents
anew
by
stirring,
or
tha't
they
be
replac
ed.
