Overview

The Santa Fe ULTRA98 and ULTRA120 are ventilating dehumidifiers designed to integrate with existing heating and cooling systems to enhance comfort, health, and property protection. These devices offer dehumidification, optional fresh air ventilation, and air filtration.

Function Description:

The primary function of these units is to remove excess moisture from the air, thereby controlling humidity levels within a structure. This helps prevent issues associated with high humidity, such as mold growth, musty odors, and damage to property. The optional fresh air ventilation feature allows for the introduction of outside air, improving indoor air quality and providing year-round drying capabilities, especially in cold climates or when dew points are low. The units are designed to be installed indoors in spaces protected from rain and flooding, and they should be used in an upright position. They integrate into the existing HVAC system by drawing air from a dedicated indoor air return and supplying dehumidified air to the HVAC system's air supply. An insulated duct can connect the unit to the outside for fresh air intake.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: The dehumidifiers operate on a common grounded 115 VAC outlet, requiring a minimum 15 Amp circuit capacity. A GFCI protected circuit is recommended if installed in an area that may become wet.
  • Controls: Low voltage (24 Volt) controls are required, connected with 18-22 gauge thermostat wire. Santa Fe offers the DEH 3000 proprietary control, which allows monitoring and control of relative humidity and ventilation levels. The DEH 3000 also has a remote sensing option. The units feature a resettable circuit breaker to protect the 24-volt control transformer.
  • Ducting:
    • Fresh Air Intake (Optional): A 6" diameter duct is used for fresh air ventilation, providing up to 75 CFM of outside air. This duct should be insulated.
    • Return Air Inlet: A 10" diameter duct collar is attached for return air.
    • Supply Air Outlet: A 10" diameter duct collar is attached. The back panel can be rotated to configure for either horizontal or vertical supply air flow.
    • Duct Lengths: A minimum 10" diameter round or equivalent rectangular duct is recommended for total duct lengths up to 25'. For longer lengths, a minimum 12" diameter round or equivalent rectangular duct is advised.
    • Static Pressure: Do not connect with a static pressure greater than or equal to +0.5 WG.
  • Drainage: The units generate condensate, requiring a drain trap for proper drainage. A 3/4" threaded male NPT adapter should be installed to the drain pan, with a 3/4" PVC pipe to transport condensate to a drain, pitched at 1" per 10'. An optional condensate pump kit is available for installations requiring lift to dispose of condensate.
  • Filter: Equipped with a MERV-13 filter (Dimensions: 1.75" x 14.00" x 17.50").

Usage Features:

  • Dehumidification: Continuously monitors and adjusts humidity levels to maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.
  • Fresh Air Ventilation: Allows for controlled introduction of outside air, which can be programmed for time and frequency based on residence size and occupancy. This feature can be used for year-round drying.
  • Air Filtration: The MERV-13 filter helps improve indoor air quality by capturing airborne particles.
  • Flexible Installation: Can be suspended from structural members using steel hanger straps, ensuring the base is fully supported. The supply air outlet can be configured for horizontal or vertical flow.
  • Remote Control Capability: Compatible with remote low-voltage controls like the DEH 3000, allowing for convenient monitoring and adjustment of settings from a central location.
  • HVAC Integration: Designed to work seamlessly with existing heating and cooling systems, distributing dehumidified and/or fresh air throughout the structure.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Replacement: The MERV-13 air filter should be checked and replaced every three to six months to maintain optimal dehumidifier capacity and efficiency. Operating the unit with a dirty filter will reduce performance and void the product warranty. Filter replacement is a straightforward process involving pulling back a slide latch, swinging open the filter door, removing the old filter, inserting a new one (ensuring the airflow arrow points into the unit), and closing the door.
  • Electrical Service Access: A side panel can be removed to access electrical components for servicing.
  • Compressor Shipping Support Removal: Before operation, a plastic tie wrap securing the compressor for shipping must be cut and removed, and plastic plugs inserted into the holes. Failure to do so will cause excessive vibration.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues, including fan/compressor not running, low dehumidification capacity, and no ventilation. It outlines possible reasons and detailed troubleshooting procedures, emphasizing that these should be performed by a qualified HVAC technician due to electrical shock hazards.
  • Refrigerant Charging: If refrigerant charge is lost, the leak must be repaired, and a new charge accurately weighed in. Any old charge must be recovered before adding new refrigerant. This service must be performed by a qualified service technician.

The Santa Fe ULTRA98 and ULTRA120 are robust solutions for advanced humidity control and air quality management in residential and commercial settings, backed by a 6-year warranty on components and a 2-year warranty on the entire product.
