OPERATION
Note:
If a monaural programme source is used, the sound from the front and surround speakers will not be heard or will be heard too low.
PLAYING WITH DOLBY SURROUND
When playing a programme source encoded with Dolby Surround sound
(video tape, laser disc, etc.), follow the steps below.

Adjust the volume control on the equipment used for the front
speakers to your ordinary volume level.
Press the SOURCE button to select the source to be played.
Press the SURROUND button to select “DOLBY PRO LOGIC.

When using only the front speakers (left, centre and right no
surround speakers), select “DOLBY 3CH LOGIC.
The sound that would normally be routed to the surround
speakers is combmed with the front sound and routed to the
When selecting “DOLBY PRO LOGIC”, press the CENTER MODE
button to select the appropriate operating mode according to your
speaker placement.
NORMAL:
When using a centre speaker having limited low-frequency
response.
The low-frequency sounds occurring at the centre of the screen
are routed equally to the left and right front speakers. This creates
the illusion that the sound is coming from the centre.
WIDE:
When using a full-range centre speaker similar in size and sound
quality to the front speakers.
The low-frequency sounds occurring at the centre of the screen
are routed to the centre speaker.
PHANTOM:
When a centre speaker is not used.
The sound occurring at the centre of the screen is routed equally
to the left and right front speakers. This creates the illusion that the
sound is coming from the centre.

v MASTER VOLUME button to adjust the volume.
The MASTER VOLUME buttons affect the sound level from all
speakers.
Using the test tone
For optimum surround sound performance, adjust the centre and surround
volume as explained below. The adjustments can be made at the listening
point using the remote control.

Follow the steps 1-4 above.
Press the TEST TONE button. “TEST TONE” appears on the display.
The test tone will be heard from each speaker sequentially as follows.
“NORMAL” and “WIDE DOLBY PRO LOGIC mode:
~ Front left Centre Front right
Both surround 1
“PHANTOM” DOLBY PRO LOG(C mode:
~ Front left Front right Both surround 1
DOLBY 3CH LOGIC mode:
Front left Centre Front rigtit .

Adjust the CENTER VOL or SURROUND VOL buttons until the sound
from each speaker is the same.
When finished, press the TEST TONE button to turn the test tone off.
- The test tone will continue unless the TEST TONE button is
pressed to turn it off.
Note:
When using the example connections 3 and 4, the test tone will not be
heard from the front (left and right) speakers. The test tone will only be
heard from the front speakers when using the HT-D47 with an audio
system as shown in examples 1, 2, 5 and 6.
PLAYING WITH SURROUND 1 OR 2
When playing a programme source which is not encoded with Dolby
Surround sound, such as CDs or cassettes, follow the steps below.
1. Adjust the volume control on the equipment used for the front
speakers to your ordina~ volume level.
2. Press the SOURCE button to select the source to be played.
3. Press the SURROUND button to select “SURROUND 1“ or
“SURROUND 2“.
SURROUND 1:
This mode adds a theater-like quality.
SURROUND 2:
Adds a stage-like quality. ‘- -
The center speaker does not function in this mode.
4, Press the ~ or v MASTER VOLUME button to adjust the volume.
