The AA 4A Intelligent Battery Charger (model AA0725 / IBC4000(B)) is an advanced, microprocessor-controlled battery charger designed to enhance battery performance and extend its lifespan. It is suitable for both 12.8V lithium (LiFePO4) batteries and 6V and 12V lead-acid batteries, including WET, GEL, VRLA, and AGM types. The charger can handle batteries with capacities ranging from 1.2Ah to 120Ah for lead-acid batteries and 8Ah to 50Ah for 4-cell LiFePO4 lithium batteries.
Function Description:
The charger operates through an 8-stage charging process to ensure optimal battery health and full capacity. These stages include:
- Check: Verifies battery connections and stability before charging.
- Recovery: Initiates a recovery process for deeply discharged or sulfated batteries using small current pulses.
- Soft Start: Protects deeply discharged or sulfated batteries with a low charging rate.
- Bulk (Stages 4-5): Applies high and medium charging rates until approximately 80% of the battery capacity is reached.
- Absorption (Stage 6): Delivers small amounts of current for safe, efficient charging while limiting battery gassing.
- Maintenance (Stages 7-8): Once fully charged, the charger switches to a maintenance mode, delivering only enough current to keep the battery full. It continuously monitors voltage and initiates a maintenance cycle if the terminal voltage drops below 6.4V (for 6V batteries) or 12.8V (for 12V batteries), recharging until 6.8V (6V) or 13.6V (12V) is reached. This "trickle-charging" and "maintenance-charging" cycle repeats indefinitely, allowing the charger to be left connected for extended periods without overcharging.
The device features a digital display (G) that shows the voltage and current of the selected charging mode and the connected battery. A MODE-button (F) allows users to select various charging programs.

- 12V-Motorcycle-Mode: Voltage 14.5V, current up to 0.9A. Suitable for 12V batteries with capacity less than 12Ah.
- 12V-Car-Mode: Voltage 14.5V, current up to 4.0A. Suitable for 12V batteries with capacity higher than 12Ah.
- 6V Battery Modes: Standby, 6V-Mode, 6V-Mode + Frost-Mode.
- 6V-Mode: Voltage 7.3V, current up to 4.0A. Automatically activated if battery voltage is between 2.0V and 7.0V.
- Special Modes (long-press for 3 seconds): Standby, LITHIUM-Mode, RECOVER-12V-Mode.
- LITHIUM-Mode: Voltage 12.8V, current up to 3.0A. Exclusively for 4-cell LiFePO4 batteries. Only available if battery voltage is between 11.6V - 13.8V.
- RECOVER-12V-Mode: Voltage 14.7V, current up to 4.0A. Designed for deeply discharged or sulfated 12V lead-acid batteries using pulse charging. WARNING: Never use this mode with Lithium-batteries.
- FROST-Mode: Increases charging voltage for very low ambient temperatures (below 5°C). It must be selected in combination with other charging modes (e.g., Frost-Mode + Motorcycle-Mode: 14.7V; Frost-Mode + Car-Mode: 14.7V; Frost-Mode + 6V-Mode: 7.4V). Not for maintenance charging above 5°C.
Connection Procedure:
- Connect the positive charging lead (RED) to the positive battery terminal.
- Connect the negative charging lead (BLACK) to the negative battery terminal or the car chassis.
- Connect the charger to the mains supply.
- Select the appropriate charging mode using the MODE-button. The charging program begins automatically.
Disconnection Procedure (After Charging):
- Unplug the charger from the mains supply.
- Disconnect the negative charging lead (BLACK).
- Disconnect the positive charging lead (RED).
Display Indicators:
- Battery-level bars: Flash during charging, indicating progress (1 bar = 20%, 5 bars = 90%). Solid when fully charged.
- Wrong Polarity symbol: Flashes if battery is connected in reverse.
- Defective-Battery symbol: Lights up if battery voltage is <2.0V or >14V upon connection, or if a 12V battery in RECOVER-12V-Mode doesn't reach >12V after 3 hours.
- Not Connected symbol: Flashes if no battery is connected or connection is interrupted.
Memory Function: The charger remembers the last charging mode used when disconnected and reconnected. If the mode is incompatible with the connected battery, it defaults to Standby-mode.
Defective Battery Detection and Recovery: The charger attempts to rescue batteries with very low voltage (7V-10.5V) by initiating a gentle impulse charge to reactivate 12V batteries. If voltage doesn't rise above 10.5V within 2 hours, the battery is deemed defective.
Zero Volt Battery Charging: For lithium batteries with Protection Circuit Modules (PCM) that show 0V output, a small pulse current is used to detect the battery connection.
Maintenance Features:
- Trickle Charging: After full charge, the charger automatically switches to trickle charging, maintaining the battery with low currents. It can be left connected indefinitely.
- Safety: The device has safeguards against overheating, reverse-polarity, and short-circuiting. However, users are advised to avoid touching or connecting red to black clamps and to only connect/disconnect the battery when the mains supply is disconnected to prevent sparks.
- Durability: IP65 protection class indicates resistance to dust and water jets.
