What to do if the red BAD BATTERY LED is lit on my Schumacher SPI1 Battery Charger?
    • C
      Christopher PachecoAug 4, 2025
If the red BAD BATTERY LED is lit, the battery may be sulfated. The charger is in desulfation mode, so continue charging for several hours. If this doesn't work, have the battery checked. Also, the battery may be overheated, so allow it to cool. The battery may be too large or have a short circuit, or the battery capacity could be too low, or the battery is too old. In these cases, have it checked or replaced. The battery also might not hold a charge due to a drain or because it's bad. Ensure there are no loads on the battery; if there are, remove them. If not, have the battery checked or replaced.

How to fix a Schumacher SPI1 Battery Charger when the green POWER LED does not light?
    • C
      Charles MayerAug 13, 2025
If the green POWER LED doesn't light up when the charger is properly connected, it could be due to a dead AC outlet or a poor electrical connection. Check for an open fuse or circuit breaker supplying the AC outlet. Also, check the power cord and extension cord for a loose fitting plug.

Why is the red BAD BATTERY LED lit and the yellow/orange LED flashing on my Schumacher Battery Charger?
    • R
      Ronald BrownAug 23, 2025
The red BAD BATTERY LED and flashing yellow/orange LED indicate that the battery voltage is still below 10V (for a 12V battery) or 5V (for a 6V battery) after 2 hours of charging, or in maintain mode, the output current is more than 1.5A for 12 hours. The battery may be defective. Ensure there are no loads on the battery; if there are, remove them. If there are none, have the battery checked or replaced.
