Also, the fuel tank might be empty or contaminated with water, so refill it. A clogged or water-contaminated fuel filter (carburetor-equipped models) could also be the issue; in this case, siphon and refill with fresh fuel. Fouled or defective spark plugs can also prevent starting, so replace them.

Dried salt water in the safety lanyard cap can also cause this, so clean the cap to remove any salt water.
