Overview

The Sealey Nut/Bolt Drill Jig, Model No. VS559, is an essential race-day tool designed for accurately drilling nuts and bolts. Its compact design ensures precision, making it a valuable asset for tasks requiring secure fastening with safety wire. The jig is supplied in a pouch for convenient storage and portability.

Function Description:

The primary function of the VS559 is to provide a stable and precise guide for drilling holes into nuts and bolts, typically for the insertion of safety wire. This process is crucial in applications where fasteners must be secured against loosening due to vibration or stress, such as in motorsport or other high-performance environments. The jig ensures that the drilled holes are consistently placed and aligned, which is vital for effective safety wiring. It accommodates a range of common nut and bolt sizes, allowing for versatility in its application. The design facilitates drilling through both the shank of a bolt and the corner of a nut, enabling the creation of attachment points for safety wire.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model No.: VS559

    • M6 x 1
    • M8 x 1
    • M8 x 1.25
    • M10 x 1.25
    • M10 x 1.5

  • Drill Bit Size: A 1.5mm drill bit is recommended for use with this jig to create the necessary holes for safety wire.
  • Construction: The jig is manufactured to a high standard, ensuring durability and reliable performance over time.

Usage Features:

The VS559 is designed for straightforward and safe operation, with specific instructions to ensure accuracy and prevent injury.

  1. Mounting: It is crucial to always mount the jig securely. It should never be hand-held during operation. The jig must be clamped in a vice or to a pillar drill table to ensure stability and precision during drilling.
  2. Bolt Drilling:
    • To drill a bolt, screw the bolt into the "Bolt jig" section until its shank extends past the cross shaft (as illustrated in Fig.1).
    • Using a 1.5mm drill bit, drill through the smaller end of the cross shaft, through the jig, and into the bolt. This creates a precise hole in the bolt shank.
  3. Nut Drilling:
    • To drill a nut, clamp the nut into the "Nut jig" section (as illustrated in Fig.2).
    • Drill through the jig from the smaller end of the cross shaft using a 1.5mm drill bit. This action will pierce the corner of the nut, creating a hole suitable for inserting a safety wire.
  4. Work Environment: The tool should be used in a suitable, clean, and tidy work area with adequate lighting, free from unrelated materials.
  5. Safety Precautions:
    • Always store the tool in a safe, childproof place when not in use.
    • Do not allow untrained individuals or children to use or play with the tool.
    • Do not use the tool for tasks it is not designed to perform.
    • Do not operate the tool if any parts are damaged or missing, as this could lead to failure or personal injury.
    • Do not operate the tool while tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating medication.

Maintenance Features:

While the manual does not detail specific maintenance procedures for the jig itself, general good practices for tool care apply:

  • Storage: Store the jig in its pouch in a safe, dry, and childproof location to protect it from damage and corrosion.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect the jig for any signs of wear, damage, or missing parts. Ensure all components are in good working order before each use.
  • Cleaning: Keep the jig clean from debris, metal shavings, and other contaminants that could affect its precision or functionality.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a 12-month guarantee from the purchase date. Proof of purchase is required for any claim, indicating the importance of proper care to ensure longevity within the warranty period.

The Sealey VS559 Nut/Bolt Drill Jig is a reliable and precise tool designed to meet the demanding requirements of securing fasteners with safety wire, ensuring peace of mind in critical applications.
