Another cause could be dry cores or a lack of water; inspect the water distribution system and pump for obstructions. Also, ensure there are enough air discharge openings and exhaust to prevent high humidity. Check for obstructions in the exhaust air duct. Note that on days with excessive ambient humidity, the cooler's performance will be reduced, and there is no fix for this.

If the pads remain wet after shutdown, run the fan on "vent" for 3 hours to dry them out. Heavy core deposits can also cause odors, so replace the cores.
