  If your Setcom Intercom System isn't working, ensure the system is powered. Also, check the in-line fuse. Compare your system setup to the provided system diagram. Note that the intercom won't operate if it's not connected to a radio. If you want to check the intercom with the radio cable disconnected, you can clip a lead from the metal portion of the headset jack in the IM-900 to chassis ground.

Why is there a steady hum heard in my Setcom IM-900 headset?

  A steady hum in the headset is commonly due to a ground loop. To test for a short to ground, with all subcomponents connected to the IM-900 or IM-900E, disconnect just the radio cable. If the intercom system is still working (you can hear yourself speaking in the headset), you have a short to ground somewhere in the cabling. Disconnect components one at a time until you locate the shorted component. To fix it, locate the sharp edge causing the problem and install a rubber grommet or other protection. Repair or replace the affected cable and reconnect.

  First, determine if the noise is coming in through the radio cable or power cable. If the whine stops or is greatly reduced, the FM radio is probably the source. If not, the whine is probably due to excessive AC ripple on the battery power leads.
