6 Troubleshooting
PROBLEM Descriptions and Probable Solutions
Nothing working at all
•Make sure the system is powered
•Check the in-line fuse
•Compare your system set up to the provided system
diagram
•Note that the intercom receives its ground through the radio
to prevent ground loops. Intercom will not operate if not
connected to a radio. If you want to check the intercom with
the radio cable disconnected, you can clip a lead from the
metal portion of the headset jack in the IM-900 to chassis
ground.
No Sidetone
(your own voice in your
headset through the intercom)
•Check the volume control knob setting.
•Ensure that the IM-900 is powered.
•Verify that a radio transmit headset is being used. Indicated
by a black PTT button
Squeal heard in the headset
•Be sure you do not have an intercom only headset plugged
into a radio transmit position. The radio transmit headsets
have a black PTT button. The intercom only headsets have a
red PTT button.
Intercom is working, but no
radio transmit
•Ensure that all connecting cables are seated snugly
•Make sure a radio transmit headset is being used, indicated
by a black PTT button.
•Try a known working headset in the non-transmitting port
Weak transmit heard
through the radio
•If using a RIM-900-BAL, make sure the TX rotary dial is at
the proper setting for your radio
•Ensure that the mic is close enough to your lips; 1/8" is the
recommended distance
•Ensure that your radio is set up properly
•The headset microphone has a pickup element on each
side. The side with writing on it, either 736 or 756-22, should
be facing you.
Radio receive audio is heard
in the cabin but not in the
headsets
•Insure that any "flying lead" from a MAC is correctly
connected to speaker lead of the radio (see Section 5.6.). If
a radio cable is being used insure you are connected to the
speaker-high lead.
