This document is the operation manual for the SHARP XL-HF203B Hi-Fi Component System.

Function Description:

The SHARP XL-HF203B is a Hi-Fi Component System designed for audio playback from various sources including CDs, MP3/WMA discs, USB mass storage devices, Android™ devices, Bluetooth-enabled devices, and radio (FM/AM). It also features an "Optical In" terminal for connecting to digital audio output from devices like TVs or Blu-Ray/DVD players, and a "PC In" terminal for connecting to a computer. The system supports NFC for one-touch Bluetooth connection, Party Link for connecting up to four Bluetooth devices, and a Headphone Link for wireless headphone use via Bluetooth. It includes a timer function for scheduled playback and a sleep function for automatic power off.

Usage Features:

  • Remote Control: The system is operated primarily via a remote control, which requires two "AAA" batteries. It features buttons for power, function selection, volume, tuning, playback controls, display settings, and timer/sleep functions.
  • Display Brightness Control: The display brightness can be adjusted through three levels (Dimmer 1, Dimmer 2, Dimmer off) using the remote control.
  • Volume Control: Volume can be adjusted via a knob on the main unit or +/- buttons on the remote control. The system includes a volume auto fade-in feature when powered on at high volume settings.
  • Muting: A dedicated button on the remote control allows for instant muting and unmuting of the audio.
  • X-Bass Control: An X-BASS button on the remote control activates or deactivates the extra bass mode.
  • Bass/Treble Control: Dedicated BASS and TREBLE buttons on the remote control allow for adjustment of bass and treble levels within a range of -5 to +5.
  • Auto Power Off: The main unit automatically enters standby mode after 15 minutes of inactivity in various functions (Audio/Line In/Optical In/PC In, CD, USB, Bluetooth).
  • Direct Key Power On: The unit can be turned on directly by pressing specific function buttons (CD, USB, BLUETOOTH, INPUT, TUNER (BAND), OPEN/CLOSE) or the play button on the main unit.
  • Bluetooth Connectivity:
    • NFC One-Touch Connection: For NFC-enabled Android devices (4.1 Jelly Bean or higher), simply tap the device to the N-Mark on the remote control or main unit for instant pairing and audio streaming.
    • Manual Bluetooth Pairing: For non-NFC devices, pairing involves selecting the Bluetooth function, holding the PAIRING button, and then selecting "XL-HF203B SHARP" from the source device's detected devices list.
    • Party Link: Connects up to 4 Bluetooth devices, with only one playing at a time.
    • Headphone Link: Allows wireless headphones to connect via Bluetooth, muting speaker output when active.
  • CD/MP3/WMA Playback: Supports standard CD playback, as well as MP3/WMA files from CD-R/RW discs. Features include random play, repeat play (one track, all tracks, or folder), and programmed play (up to 32 tracks/folders). Resume playback is also supported.
  • USB Playback: Plays MP3/WMA files from USB mass storage devices. Supports folder mode and displays title, artist, and album information if recorded.
  • Android Device Playback: Supports Android devices (Open Accessory Protocol) via USB connection, allowing playback of audio data.
  • PC In Function: Enables playback of audio data from a connected PC, treating the unit as a "USB speaker."
  • Optical In Function: Allows connection to digital audio output from other devices (e.g., TV, Blu-Ray player) for enhanced sound.
  • Radio Tuner: FM (Stereo/Mono) and AM tuning with manual and auto scan options. Up to 40 FM/AM stations can be memorized and recalled.
  • Timer Operations:
    • Once Timer: Plays a selected source at a preset time once.
    • Daily Timer: Plays a selected source at the same preset time every day.
    • Both timers can be set to turn on and off at specific times with a chosen volume level.
  • Sleep Operation: Automatically turns off the unit after a preset duration (10 to 90 minutes).

Maintenance Features:

  • Cabinet Cleaning: Periodically wipe the cabinet with a soft cloth and a diluted soap solution, then with a dry cloth. Avoid using chemicals like gasoline or paint thinner.
  • CD Pickup Lens Cleaning: For proper CD player operation, periodic cleaning of the laser pickup lens is recommended using commercially available lens cleaners.
  • Disc Care: Handle discs by their edges, keep them away from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive moisture. Clean with a soft, dry cloth, wiping straight out from the center along the radius. Avoid marking the non-label side of the disc.
  • Condensation: If condensation occurs inside the unit (due to sudden temperature changes or high humidity), leave the power on with no disc inside for about an hour until normal playback is possible.
  • Factory Reset: In case of malfunction or to clear all stored data (clock, timer settings, tuner presets), a factory reset can be performed by following specific steps involving the ON/STANDBY, FUNCTION, and button presses.
  • Transporting the Unit: Before moving the unit, remove all connected devices and any discs inside, then set the unit to power standby mode to prevent damage.
