How to start a Shindaiwa Trimmer that won't start?
- LLeon AbbottAug 17, 2025
If your Shindaiwa Trimmer engine doesn't start, there are several potential causes. First, ensure the ignition switch is in the Start position. If the spark plug is loose, tighten it and re-test. If the spark plug is fouled or improperly gapped, clean and regap it to 0.6 mm and restart. If the plug is wet, excess fuel may be in the cylinder; crank the engine with the plug removed, reinstall the plug, and restart. Also, the fuel could be incorrect, stale, or contaminated; refill with fresh, clean unleaded gasoline with a pump octane of 89 or higher mixed with a 2-cycle air cooled mixing oil that meets or exceeds ISO-L-EGD and/or JASO FC, FD classified oils at 50:1 gasoline/oil ratio. Finally, check for a clogged fuel filter or vent, and replace as required before restarting.
