What to do if closing springs charge but Siemens 38-3AH3 38 kV circuit breaker doesn't close?
- Sspencer32Jul 31, 2025
If the closing springs charge but the circuit breaker doesn't close, possible causes include a de-energized secondary control circuit or blown control circuit fuses, requiring you to correct the issue. There might be no closing signal to secondary disconnect pin 13, so check for continuity and correct protective relay logic. Also, secondary disconnect contacts 13 or 15 may not be engaging, and you should check and correct them as needed. Other potential issues are failure of the anti-pump relay (52Y) contacts, failure of the close coil (solenoid) (52SRC), auxiliary switch NC contacts 41 to 42 being open, or the spring-charged switch LS9 NO contacts remaining open after springs are charged. Check and replace or adjust these components as necessary.
