8.1 ENGINEERING DRAWINGS AND PART NUMBERING
This section describes the Siemens Engineering Drawing and Part Numbering.
The EPAC300-M50 Series consists of a Top Level Assembly that is made up of
several major Subassemblies. Each Subassembly may contain standard
“Purchased” parts, specially-machined “Fabricated” parts, electronic assemblies,
and wire cable assemblies.
Each “Purchased Part” is a standard item that Siemens purchases from another
vendor, such as an electronic part. Because equivalent Purchased Parts may be
procured from several vendors under several vendor part numbers, Siemens
assigns a unique “Purchased Part Number” to each item procured from another
vendor. The Purchased Part Number, vendor, vendor part number, and vendor data
sheet for each Purchased Part is included in the Parts Manual.
The customer has the option of buying replacement Purchased Parts from Siemens
using the Purchased Part Number, or may buy the replacement part directly from
the vendor, using the vendor and vendor part numbers listed in the Parts Manual.
There are no Siemens drawings for Purchased Parts, but each has a data sheet that
is available from the vendor.
Each “Fabricated Part” is an item that is specially designed and manufactured by
Siemens, such as sheet metal parts and bare printed circuit boards. Each
Fabricated Part has an Siemens Engineering Drawing that provides material,
dimensions, and special instructions for fabrication. Replacement Fabricated
Parts can be ordered from Siemens. Engineering Drawings for Fabricated Parts
are not included in this manual nor in the Parts Manual.
Each “Assembled Part” is an item that is specially designed and manufactured by
Siemens, that is assembled from Purchased Parts, Fabricated Parts, or other
Assembled Parts. Each Assembled Part has an Siemens Engineering Drawing that
provides a picture and special instructions for assembly. Each Assembled Part
also has an Siemens Parts List that identifies each part required for assembly.
Replacement Assembled Parts can be ordered from Siemens. Engineering
Drawings for Assembled Parts, as well as the Parts Lists are included in the Parts
Manual.
Siemens uses a “significant” numbering system for parts and drawings, meaning
that each digit of the number signifies some information, as shown in the following
example:
