Installation and operating conditions for hazardous areas
Notes on installation and use
Note the following conditions when installing, maintaining and operating the device in a
hazardous area:
• The permissible ambient temperature range is -25 °C ≤ Ta ≤ 55 °C.
• The RFID readers/writers must be protected against UV light.
• EPL Gc: The RFID readers/writers can only be used in areas with degree of pollution 2
or better, as defined in IEC 60991-1.
• The RFID readers/writers can only be commissioned in either II 3G or II 3D hazardous
areas. Hazardous areas with mixed atmospheres are not permitted.
• During installation, the surface of the metal housing/frame must be smooth and clean.
• The RFID readers/writers must be installed in a housing with wall thickness 2-7 mm.
• The RFID readers/writers can only be installed in areas with a low risk of mechanical
danger.
• The USB/RS232 cable must be secured with the supplied cable ties and adhesive
socket. You can only remove or connect the USB/RS232 cable when the power supply
is switched off or when the device is in an area without flammable gas or dust
concentrations.
• The RFID readers/writers should only be cleaned with a damp cloth.
• The RFID readers/writers cannot be installed close to charge-generating processes.
• EPL Gc: The RFID readers/writers can only be installed in housings with ingress
protection of at least IP54 in accordance with EN 60079-0.
• EPL Dc: The RFID readers/writers can only be installed in housings with ingress
protection of at least IP6X in accordance with EN 60079-0.
• EPL Gc: It has to be guaranteed that the transient protection is set to a value that does
not exceed 140% of the measured peak voltage value at the USB/RS232 cable of the
housing.
