1 Safety instructions
Read through the operating manual carefully. Follow all instructions and notices to prevent
injury or damage to property.
Intended use
SIKA flow switches of the VH / VK series must only be used for minimum or maximum
monitoring of liquid flows.
The flow switches of the VH / VK series are no safety components in accordance
with Directive 2006/42/EC (Machine Directive).
Never use the device as a safety component.
The operational safety of the device supplied is only guaranteed by intended use. The speci-
fied limits ( p. 30) may under no circumstances be exceeded.
Qualified personnel
• The personnel in charge of the installation, operation and maintenance of the device
must hold a relevant qualification. This can be based on training or relevant instructions.
• The electrical connection may only be carried out by a fully qualified electrician.
General safety instructions
• Degree of protection according to EN 60529:
Ensure that the ambient conditions at the place of use do not exceed the requirements of
the specified degree of protection ( p. 30).
• Prevent freezing of the medium in the device with appropriate measures.
If the flow switch is to be used in ambient temperatures of <4 °C, do not carry out any op-
eration beforehand with pure water, e.g. a test run.
Residual water in the flow switch can result in frost damage.
• Only use the device in perfect condition. Damaged or faulty devices must be checked im-
mediately and replaced if necessary.
• Do not remove or destroy type plates or other markings on the device, or the warranty is
rendered null and void.
Special safety instructions for flow switches of the type VH…X
• The flow switch should only come into contact with media with a minimum ignition tem-
perature of >135 °C and ignition energy of >60 µJ.
• When installing and before starting-up, it is to be guaranteed that the mechanical process
connections are technically tight.
• Always consider the impermeability of the screwing elements for the zone allocation. De-
pending on the operating conditions, it may be necessary to regularly check the imper-
meability of the screwing elements.
