This document is an installation guide for the Simplicity 6 Canopy or Carport system. It provides detailed instructions for setting up the structure, including foundation work, fitting various components, glazing, and optional lighting installation.
Function Description
The Simplicity 6 Canopy or Carport is a modular outdoor structure designed to provide shelter. It can be installed as a canopy attached to a wall or as a freestanding carport. The system utilizes an aluminum frame and glass sheets for the roof, offering durability and a clean aesthetic. Optional features include integrated LED lighting and a Victorian upgrade drainage system.
Important Technical Specifications
Roof Span Chart (Simplicity 6):
- Up to 3.2m Projection: 600mm Roof Bar Spacings.
- Post Spacings (Up to & Including 3.2m Projection): 3m Post Spacings.
- Maximum Overhang: A maximum of 500mm overhang on the gutter is allowed from the post.
- Minimum Head Height: The front height of the canopy/carport must be above 2.1m to meet minimum legal head height requirements.
- Minimum Pitch for Self-Cleaning Glass: A minimum pitch of 10° is required when using self-cleaning glass. At 3.2 meters projection, the maximum pitch is 13° due to glass length.
- Foundation Holes: Minimum 300x300x600mm deep. Structural engineer consultation is recommended for verification.
- Glass Dimensions: The glass is supplied cut to the correct dimensions, typically 40mm wider than the inside-to-inside measurement of the roof bars. This allows for a 20mm overlap into each glazing bar and a 5mm gap for expansion.
- Gutter Joining Plates (for canopies longer than 6m):
- 4No. flat aluminum joining plates: 2No. 18mm x 300mm x 2mm, 1No. 70mm x 300mm x 2mm, 1No. 61.5mm x 300mm x 2mm.
- Requires Sudaflex marine grade sealer.
- 4No. M6 x 20mm hex headed bolts and M6 self-locking nuts.
- A 3mm to 5mm gap must be maintained between joined gutter beams.
- Victorian Upgrade Drainage System: Requires a 45mm diameter hole in the gutter section for the post. The foundation requires at least 100mm of dry mix concrete under the post and the center of the foundation should be filled level to the bottom of the 40mm hole to prevent rainwater pooling.
- Standard Drainage System: Requires a 45mm diameter hole in the gutter section for the downpipe.
- Lighting System (Optional):
- 12 Volt LED self-adhesive strip light.
- Aluminum extrusion light channel with polycarbonate lenses.
- Requires an electrical capacitor for each 6m of light.
- Optional external grade plastic box to house capacitors for outdoor installations.
- Cable exit requires a 6mm drill bit.
Usage Features
- Versatile Installation: Can be installed as a wall-mounted canopy or a freestanding carport.
- Modular Design: Components are designed for assembly, with specific instructions for joining longer gutter sections.
- Self-Cleaning Glass Compatibility: The system supports Pilkington Activ™ self-cleaning glass, which requires daylight and rain to work effectively. A minimum 10-degree angle is recommended for optimal performance.
- Integrated Lighting (Optional): Provides ambient lighting for the covered area, with a discreet design where the light channel fits into the wall plate or gutter beam.
- Drainage Options: Includes provisions for a standard drainage system with downpipes or a Victorian upgrade drainage system integrated into the posts.
Maintenance Features
- Sealing: Sudaflex marine grade sealer is used for joining gutter sections and sealing gutter end caps, ensuring weather resistance.
- Fixing Caps: Plastic caps are recommended for screw/bolt heads on the wall plate for aesthetic reasons and potentially for protection.
- Cleaning: The guide mentions "Cleaning Materials" as a tool required, implying regular cleaning of the structure.
- Glass Care: Self-cleaning glass requires specific conditions (daylight, rain, minimum pitch) to maintain its effectiveness, reducing manual cleaning frequency.
- Lighting Maintenance: The LED strip light is accessible by unscrewing the aluminum end cap and sliding out the polycarbonate lenses, allowing for maintenance or replacement of the light strip.
