Before you begin
We want your installation of Sky Broadband to be as smooth as
possible so we recommend you install your router using the wires
provided to ensure your connections are all working fully. We then
tell you how to set up your wireless connection on page 11, and once
you've done that, you can use it wirelessly about your home.
Before you put in your CD make sure you have:
1. Disabled all anti - virus and firewall software. Please note: this
is very important. If you wish to download your free McAfee ®
Internet Security
Suite (see page 7) , you will need to uninstall
your existing applications (see right-hand column), as having
two security applications running at the same time will slow
down your internet connection.
2. Checked your Sky Broadband is active. You will receive a letter
from us before it goes live , but if you haven't, don't worry, it's
on its way . You probably won 't be able to get online until your
activation date, so we would advise that you wait for your
letter before you set up.
3. Checked your computer meets the minimum requirements.
(See page 2).
4. Closed any open applications.
From here on , your easy-install CD will take you through the set-up
process automatically.
Now you are ready to insert the CD into the CD
drive of your computer. It should start straight away; all you need to
do is follow the simple instructions on the CD. If the CD doesn't start,
on a PC go to My Computer and double-click the CD drive marked
Sky Broadband to launch it.
On a Mac, select the CD, double-click to open it, (if double clicking does
not start the installation, then right-click on the CD and select Open ,
or if your mouse has one button only , press the Apple key and click).
Removing your
existing software:
Here 's how you remove your existing
security software (on PCs)
1. From the taskbor, click Start
2. Choose settings (Windows XP
users will skip this step)
3. Choose control panel
4. Double-click on the Add or
Remove Programs icon
5. Select the security software
that you currently hove
on your computer
6. Choose remove and follow
the instructions
If you still aren't sure how to remove
your anti·virus and firewall
software, you should check
with the manufacturer of the software
you ore using.
