Overview

This document describes the Smeg SI2M7953D induction hob, providing essential information for its safe installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Smeg SI2M7953D is an induction hob designed for household cooking. It features multiple induction cooking zones that directly heat the bottom of cookware through electromagnetic fields, ensuring efficient and rapid cooking. The hob is operated via sensor fields on a control panel, which allow users to activate/deactivate the hob, set heat settings, and manage various functions.

Key functions include:

  • Heat Setting: Users can adjust the heat intensity for each cooking zone by touching or sliding a finger along the control bar.
  • Automatic Switch Off: For safety, the hob automatically deactivates under certain conditions, such as prolonged inactivity, spills on the control panel, overheating, or use of incorrect cookware. The deactivation time varies based on the set heat setting.
  • MultiZone: This function allows two adjacent cooking zones to be linked and operated as a single, larger zone, ideal for accommodating larger cookware. It activates when the pot covers the centers of both zones.
  • Accelerator: Designed to achieve a desired heat setting in a shorter time, this function initially operates the zone at its highest setting before settling to the chosen heat level. It can only be activated when the cooking zone is cold.
  • Power Function: This feature provides a temporary boost of power to an induction cooking zone, making more power available for a limited period. After this period, the zone automatically reverts to its highest heat setting.
  • Timer (Count Down Timer): Users can set a specific duration for a cooking zone to operate. Once the time elapses, an acoustic signal sounds, and the zone deactivates.
  • CountUp Timer: This function monitors and displays how long a cooking zone has been operating, showing the elapsed time in minutes.
  • Minute Minder: This acts as a standalone timer that can be set when the hob is active but no cooking zones are in use. An acoustic signal sounds when the set time ends.
  • Pause: This function temporarily lowers all active cooking zones to the lowest heat setting (level 1) and locks other control panel symbols, allowing for a brief interruption without losing current settings. Timer functions continue to operate during pause.
  • Lock: This feature allows users to lock the control panel while cooking zones are active, preventing accidental changes to heat settings. The timer remains operational when the panel is locked.
  • Child Safety Device: This function prevents accidental operation of the hob, enhancing safety, especially in households with children. It can be activated and deactivated through a specific sequence of touches on the control panel.
  • OffSound Control: This function enables users to deactivate or activate the acoustic sounds produced by the hob, such as those for timer completion or button presses.
  • Power Management: The hob intelligently distributes power among cooking zones, especially when multiple zones are active on the same electrical phase, to prevent exceeding the maximum electricity loading. If the total load exceeds a certain limit, the power to some zones may be automatically reduced.
  • Auto-Vent: An advanced automatic function that connects the hob to a compatible Auto-Vent hood via infrared signals. The hood's fan speed is automatically adjusted based on the hob's mode setting and the temperature of the hottest cookware. Users can also manually control the fan speed from the hob.

Usage Features

The hob is designed for intuitive use with its sensor-based control panel.

  • Activation/Deactivation: A simple touch for 1 second activates or deactivates the hob.
  • Heat Setting Adjustment: Heat settings are adjusted by touching or sliding a finger along a control bar.
  • Cookware Placement: Cookware should be placed in the center of the selected zone. Induction zones automatically adapt to the bottom dimensions of the cookware. For MultiZone, cookware must cover the centers of both linked zones.
  • Safety Reminders: The hob provides visual indicators for residual heat (Eco-Heat), indicating that a zone is still hot after use. It also displays error codes for malfunctions or incorrect usage (e.g., unsuitable cookware).
  • Noise During Operation: The manual clarifies that certain noises (crackling, whistling, humming, clicking, hissing, buzzing) are normal during induction hob operation and do not indicate a malfunction. These noises are often related to cookware material, power levels, or fan operation.
  • Energy Saving Tips: The manual provides advice on how to save energy during cooking, such as using lids, placing cookware on the zone before activation, using smaller cookware on smaller zones, and utilizing residual heat.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and proper care are essential to maintain the appliance's performance and appearance.

  • General Cleaning: The hob should be cleaned after each use. A moist soft cloth and neutral detergents are recommended. Abrasive products, pads, solvents, or metal objects should be avoided.
  • Immediate Cleaning for Spills: Melted plastic, sugar, or sugary foods should be removed immediately using a special scraper at an acute angle to prevent damage to the glass surface. Caution is advised to avoid burns.
  • Cleaning for Cooled Hob: Limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and shiny metallic discoloration should be cleaned once the hob has cooled sufficiently, using a moist cloth and non-abrasive detergent. A solution of water with vinegar can be used for metallic discoloration.
  • Cookware Care: Always ensure cookware bases are clean and dry before placing them on the hob surface to prevent scratches or stains.
  • Service and Repair: In case of issues that cannot be resolved through troubleshooting, users are advised to contact an Authorized Service Centre. Only original spare parts should be used for repairs.
  • Disposal: The manual provides instructions for environmentally responsible disposal of the appliance and its packaging, emphasizing recycling and contacting municipal authorities for guidance.
  • Connection Cable: If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, an authorized Service, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards. The specified cable type is H05V2V2-F, suitable for temperatures of 90°C or higher.
