If your Sony Stereo Receiver experiences distortion when connected to the DVD/LD optical input jack, performing the DSP/SRAM Self Test can help isolate the issue. If the self-test passes without distortion in the 1KHz test tone, the distortion might stem from IC1403, IC1301, IC1101, or IC1005. If the distortion occurs on all digital inputs, including the coaxial input, the optical receiver ICs can be ruled out. Check the data output of IC1005 for distortions. If no distortion is present, IC1101 may be defective.
