Evaporator
Replacement
(Refrigerated
Centrifuges Only)
1.
Open
the lid
and remove
the
rotor.
2.
Unplug
the
centrifuge
power
cord.
3.
Remove
the black
Kydex®
cover
by prying
the
plastic
caps
off the
four
screws (one
in
each
comer)
and removing
the
four
screws.
Discard the
plastic
caps.
4.
Remove the door seal
from
the
evaporator lip.
5.
Remove
the
access panel (paragraph
5-33).
6.
Evacuate refrigerant
from
the
refrigeration
system
by
attaching one
end
of
a charging
hose to
the
low-pressure,
gas
refrigerant service
valve
(see figure
5-4)
and
placing
the
other
end
In
an
empty
refrigerant
bottle
(or use an equivalent method). Openthevalve.
After
the
refrigerant
is
completely
drained,
close
the
valve
and
remove
the
hose.
7.
Locate the
two
evaporator
Inlet
and outlet
lines.
Remove
enough
of
the
insulating
tape
from
each line to
permit
loosening
of
the
two
nuts
that
secure
the lines
to
the
evaporator.
Disconnect
the
lines and seal
the refrigerant lines
to
the
compressor
to
prevent moisture
from
accumulating
inside
the
compressor
lines while
replacing
the
evaporator assembly.
8.
Lower
the front
panel
(paragraph
5-32).
9.
From inside
the
rotor
chamber,
remove
the
gyro
seal
and
foam
insulating
ring.
10.
Locate the
temperature sensor
to
the right of
the
gyro
assembly.
Lift
the
sensor
assembly
until
the
connector
is
visible through
the
center
hole of the
evaporator.
Then.
use
a
pin
extractor to
remove
the
connector and
pull
up
the
sensor wires.
Note
the
wire/pin
orientation
to
the
plug
connector.
11.
Remove
the
fourteen screws
securing
the
two
top
frame
plates.
Cut
the Velcro®
strips
between the
top plates.
Separate
and
remove
the
top
plates.
12.
Lift
out the
evaporator.
13.
To
replace
the
evaporator,
reverse
the
procedure
given
above,
and
charge
the
refrigeration
system
to specification as
follows:
a.
Fill
the
refrigeration system
with refrigerant
12
(refer to refrigeration
system
specifications
in
paragraph
6-1).
Normal
operating pressure
with
an
H-1000B
Rotor
at
3200
rpm
is from
9
to
11
psig
suction
and from
110
to
130
psig
head
pressure
at
0°C
chamber
temperature.
NOTE
Check fittings for refrigerant
leaks.
