Repair
&
Replacement
CAUTION
To avoid binding and
possible
damage
to
the
bearings, keep
the
gyro
cartridge assembly straight
when inserting
it
into the
gyro
housing.
DO
NOT
use a
hammer
or
similar
object to
force
it
into
the
gyro
housing.
9.
Seat
the
wavy
washer and
then the flatwasher into
gyro
housing
(some
gyro
cartridges
do
not have
the flatwasher;
this will
not
affect
the
performance
of the
gyro
assembly).
Secure
the
snap
ring
over
the
flatwasher
(if
installed) and
lower
the
plastic
cap.
10.
Reinstall the
pulley
onto the
gyro
shaft
as
follows:
a.
If
the
pulley
is secured
with
a
Trantorque"*
keyless
machine
mount:
1.)
Place
the
pulley
onto
the
gyro
shaft with the
single-groove
side
facing
toward the
gyro
housing
so
that the
pulley
seats against
the
shoulder
on
the
shaft.
2.)
Insert
the TRANTORQUE, with its
gold
side
facing
towards
the
pulley,
so
it
is
securely positioned against
pulley.
Tighten
an
adjustable wrench
onto
the
flats (above the
plastic
cap)
of
the
gyro
shaft
to
keep
it
from
turning,
then
place a
5/8
inch
open-end
wrench onto
the flats of
the
TRANTORQUE
and firmly
tighten.
b.
If
the
pulley
is secured
with
set screws:
1.)
Place the
pulley
onto
the
gyro
shaft
with
the
single-groove
side
of the
pulley
facing
toward
the
gyro
housing
(see
figure 5-10).
2.)
Apply
Locute(")222
adhesive (PN
65811)
to the
set
screws.
3.)
Using
the side
of
the
pulley
height
gauge
(PN 07831)
marked GYRO,
measure
the correct distance between
the
gyro
and
the
pulley
(see figure
5-10).
4.)
While
rocking
pulley
back
and
forth
on shaft, alternately tighten
set screw
so
that
each
screw
seats
properly
on
the
flat
of the shaft
(figure 5-11).
