Overview

The K-FORCE® 55 Full Light Bar is an emergency vehicle warning device designed to alert pedestrians and other operators to the presence of personnel, emergency vehicles, or an emergency site. It is a professional-grade piece of equipment intended for strict use by authorized personnel only, who must be familiar with all applicable city, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding its use.

Function Description:

The K-FORCE® 55 Full Light Bar provides visual warning signals through its LED modules. It offers a variety of flash patterns and functions, including:

  • Warning Lights: Full 360° warning lights, forward-facing lights, and rear-facing lights.
  • Directional Lighting: Left arrow, center out arrow, and right arrow functions for traffic advising.
  • Utility Lighting: Take-down lights and alley lights.
  • Cruise Lights: For the four corner modules.

The light bar can be controlled via a Supreme Control Switch Box (sold separately) or by manually connecting specific wires according to the provided wiring diagram. The switch box offers a slide switch for different warning light configurations (off, front only, back only, all warning functions), and dedicated buttons for take-down, alley, traffic advisor, flash pattern, cruise, and AUX functions.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Voltage: 12 VDC
  • Amps: < 18.2
  • Optic: TIR / Linear
  • LED Count: TIR: 104 / Linear: 156
  • Cable Length: 13' Light Bar Cable, 8' Power Cable, 8' AUX Cable
  • Flash Patterns: 45 distinct flash patterns, including steady burn, single flash, quad flash, quint flash, accelerating flashes, stacking patterns, pulse sweeps, clockwise/counter-clockwise sweeps, and various combinations for left/right sides.
  • Dimensions: Approximately 55.1" in length, 11.25" in width, and 3.9" in height.

Usage Features:

  • Non-Volatile Memory: All STL LED products are equipped with non-volatile memory, which recalls the last selected flash pattern when the light bar is turned on.
  • Flash Pattern Control: Flash patterns can be cycled through using the Flash Pattern button on the Supreme Control Box or by manually manipulating the Flash Pattern wire. Shortcuts allow for toggling to Steady Burn mode (hold for 3 seconds) or Random pattern mode (hold for 5 seconds).
  • Traffic Advisor: The traffic advisor LEDs flash in sequence with the warning mode when not activated. Dedicated buttons on the control box allow for left arrow, center out arrow, and right arrow traffic sweeps.
  • Mounting Options: The K-FORCE® 55 offers several mounting options:
    • Foot Brackets (Included): Adjustable along the aluminum track for flat contact with the roof.
    • Universal Mounting Brackets (Included): Attach to the foot brackets via I-bolts and secure to the vehicle with user-supplied screws.
    • Vehicle Specific Mounting Brackets (Sold Separately): Similar to universal brackets but designed for specific vehicle models.
    • Stud Mount (Sold Separately): Replaces foot brackets, using a main mounting bolt through the stud mount.
    • Headache Rack Mount (Sold Separately): Replaces foot brackets, attaching to the light bar and then directly mounting or "sandwiching" a back rack with nuts and bolts.
  • Extension Cable (Sold Separately): Allows for extending the connection to the control box. Installation may involve connecting pre-existing connectors or cutting and soldering wires, with strict instructions to avoid cross-connecting and to protect connections from heat, moisture, or debris.
  • Daily Testing: The device and all its functions should be tested daily to ensure correct operation. Any malfunctions should be reported to STL Customer Service immediately.
  • Visibility: Users must ensure that the visual signal is not blocked by vehicle components, other obstructions, or people.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The light bar should only be cleaned with water (H2O) and a soft cloth.
  • Avoid Car Washes: Never take the light bar through a car wash, including pressure washers, automatic car washes, or those with brushes or chemicals that could scratch or damage the equipment.
  • Lens Care: Yellowing of clear lenses may occur over time; replacement lenses can be purchased by contacting STL Customer Service.
  • Wiring and Mounting Inspection: The effectiveness of the equipment is highly dependent on correct mounting and wiring. Regular inspection of wiring and mounting is crucial to prevent reduced output, performance, or potential hazards like high current arcing or fire.
  • Fuse Protection: Fuses should be properly sized and located as close to the power take-off points as possible. Only use fuses with the amp rating initially included by STL.
  • Electromagnetic Interference: To prevent interference, lightbars should be mounted a minimum of 12" - 34" from the radio antenna, and should not share power or grounding circuits with radio communication equipment. After installation, all vehicle equipment should be tested together for interference-free operation.
  • Airbag Safety: Equipment and wiring must not be installed in the deployment area of airbags (SRS) to avoid damage, reduced airbag effectiveness, or the unit becoming a projectile. Refer to the vehicle's owner's manual for airbag deployment areas.
  • Secure Installation: All equipment must be securely attached to a part of the vehicle of sufficient strength to withstand forces applied by the equipment, and permanently mounted within zones specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Interior mounting by non-permanent methods is discouraged due to risks during aggressive driving conditions.
