Assembly
Assembly of the handlebars
The SQlab aluminum and SQlab Carbon handlebars are designed to be mounted in all conventional aluminium stems with a handlebar
clamp diameter of 31.8 mm in combination with 2- and 4-screw clamps. The clamping width of the stem must not be less than 46 mm
and not exceed 58 mm.
Before assembly, read the user information for the stem and attachment components to be attached to the handlebars (shi and brake
levers, grips, remote levers, etc.) carefully. If there are any questions, doubts or contradictory requirements, ask your SQlab dealer for
advice before assembly. In addition to basic knowledge of assembly and mechanics, you will need the requisite tools (usually a 4 mm or
5mm hex key) and a corresponding torque wrench to mount the handlebars.
Moisten the cleaned and grease-free clamping surfaces of the handlebars and the stem with the supplied
SQlab assembly paste and position the handlebars in the middle of the stem. The assembly paste increases
the desired frictional force between the components to be mounted so that the bolt tightening torque does not
have to be tightened more than required.
Insert the shi and brake levers and, if available, the pull-activated remote or lockout lever in the correct order
on the handlebars, but without tightening the mounting screws.
Now mount the handlebar to the stem and x the handlebar with the stem cap, tightening the screws at this point to a low torque.
Adjust the desired angle of the handlebars about their transverse axis. Then tighten the clamping screws according to the torque spec-
ications of the respective stem model and the sequence for tightening the screws of the clamping cap. If instructions for torque and
tightening order have not been included in the scope of delivery of your stem, contact your SQlab dealer.
In the case of 8OX stems and some other stems, the handlebars snap into the stem and
are held there simply by applying slight pressure.
Information
Warning
When installing new Handlebars, be
sure to do the following in mind:
• Wider handlebars change the stee-
ring characteristics of your bicycle
considerably.
• Due to the changed handlebar width
it can lead to higher forces, that act
on the stem.
• Handlebars with modied width can
hit the frame and cause damage.
• You can nd the handlebar width of
your particular handlebar on page
12 in the technical data section of
this manual.
Warning
Badly assembled components are a
signicant danger.
• You must read and understand the
instructions and notes in the ma-
nual before you begin the assembly.
• If you have any questions about in-
stalling these components, contact
your SQlab dealer or have the hand-
lebars assembled by an experienced
mechanic at your SQlab dealer.
