Clean the felt prefilter (1) when there is a
noticeable loss of engine power
After cleaning prefilter several times:

Separate the filter components
•

Knock out the HD-filter (2) on the
palm of your hand or blow it out with
compressed air from the inside
outward.
In case of stubborn dirt or sticky filter
fabric:

Wash with STIHL universal cleaner
or in a clean, non-flammable
cleaning solution (e.g. warm soapy
water).
Rinse the filter, from the inside
outward, under a low-pressure
water jet.
Do not use a high-pressure washer.

Dry all parts of the filter.
Do not expose to high
temperatures.
•

Fit the felt prefilter (1) over the
HD filter (2)
- note correct installed position
•

•
Install HD filter (with felt prefilter)
and carburetor box cover.
•

•
Check carburetor setting and
readjust if necessary.
The felt prefilter helps protect the HD
filter and thus extends its useful life.
For this reason the felt prefilter should
be replaced at more frequent intervals
than the HD filter.
Always replace a damaged filter.
