Saw chain rotates at idle speed
N Before adjustment, let the machine
idle for 20 seconds
N Set low speed screw (L) to standard
setting
N Turn the idle speed screw (LA)
counterclockwise until the saw
chain stops turning – then turn
another 1 1/2 turns in the same
direction
If the saw chain continues to keep
rotating in idle even after adjustment,
have the chain saw checked by a
servicing dealer.
Speed erratic when idling; poor
acceleration
N Before adjustment, let the machine
idle for 20 seconds
N Set low speed screw (L) to standard
setting
N Idle speed setting is too lean – turn
the low speed screw (L)
counterclockwise until the engine
runs and accelerates smoothly
Whenever the low speed screw (L) has
been adjusted, it is usually also
necessary to adjust the idle speed
adjusting screw (LA).
Adjustment for use in the mountains or
at sea level
A marginal adjustment may be
necessary if the engine does not run
satisfactorily in the mountains or at sea
level:
N Check the standard setting
N Let the engine warm up
In the mountains
N Turn the high speed screw (H)
slightly clockwise (leaner) – max. up
to the stop
If you make the setting too lean it will
increase the risk of engine damage
through lack of lubrication and
overheating.
At sea level
N Turn the high speed screw (H)
slightly counterclockwise (richer) –
max. up to the stop
In some countries, the muffler is fitted
with a spark arresting screen.
N If engine performance deteriorates,
check the spark arresting screen in
the muffler
N Let the muffler cool down
N Remove chain sprocket cover – see
"Mounting the bar and chain"
N Remove screw (1)
N Pull out spark arresting screen (2)
N Clean the dirty spark arresting
screen, replace if damaged or
heavily carbonized
N Reinsert spark arresting screen
N Fit screw
N Refit the chain sprocket cover
