17 Troubleshooting
17.1 Troubleshooting Water Pump
17 Troubleshooting
Most malfunctions have the same causes.
Perform the following operations:
Clean the air filter.
Clean or replace the spark plug.
Carry out the standard setting.
Adjust idle speed.
Adjust carburetor for operation at high altitude.
If the malfunction still exists: Take the action described in the following table.
Condition Cause Remedy
Engine does not start. Insufficient fuel in the tank. Mix fuel and refuel the water pump.
Carburetor is too hot. Allow water pump to cool down.
Before starting the engine: Depress the manual fuel pump bulb at
least ten times.
Carburetor is iced up. Allow water pump to warm up to +10°C.
Engine is flooded. Clear the combustion chamber.
Engine idles erratically. Carburetor is iced up. Allow water pump to warm up to +10°C.
Engine stops while idling Carburetor is iced up. Allow water pump to warm up to +10°C.
Water pump does not
pump water.
Strainer or hoses are
blocked.
Clean the strainer and hoses.
Insufficient water. Make sure an adequate amount of water is available.
There is no water in the
water pump.
Connect water pump to a water source.
Fill water pump with water.
Maximum delivery head or
maximum suction head
has been exceeded.
Observe the maximum delivery head or maximum suction head.

Suction hose has
collapsed.
Use a dimensionally stable suction hose of suitable pressure
rating.
