INSPECTING BURNERS
Check pilot ame pattern and burner ame patterns often.
PILOT FLAME PATTERN
1. Turn control knob to pilot position.
2. Inspect pilot ame and refer to Fig. 20 and 21.
• Fig. 20 shows a correct pilot ame pattern.
• Fig. 21 shows an incorrect pilot ame pattern. The incorrect pilot ame is not
touching the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When the
thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.
• If the pilot ame is incorrect, as shown in Fig. 21, turn heater off (see “To Turn
Off Gas to Appliance,” page 22). See Troubleshooting, page 26 - 28.

• If burner ame is incorrect, as shown in Fig. 23, turn heater off (see “To Turn Off Gas to
Appliance”, page 22).

BURNER PRIMARY AIR HOLES
Air is drawn into the burner through the holes in the tting at the entrance to the burner.
These holes may become blocked with dust or lint. Periodically inspect these holes for
any blockage and clean as necessary. Blocked air holes will create soot.
