Push To Open (PTO) Required Force - Contemporary Models Only
The PTOsystem has a clasp mounted to the door skin, and a latch mounted to the front of the cabinet behind the
gasket collar. The force required to push the door in and disengage the PTO is 17 Pounds-Force (lbf), ±4 lbf applied
to the center of the stainless steel push bar at the top of the door.
Possible Causes What to do
Door Force > 21 lbf
New door gasket Open and close the door at six times to break-in the gasket.
Misaligned door gasket Ensure gasket is centered from side to side.
Excessive gasket material under gasket collar
Loosen collar and adjust gasket - pulling more material from
beneath the gasket collar.
Damaged or defective door gasket
Replace door gasket. Door gasket accounts for 65% of the
force required to open the door.
Defective PTO latch (oven side hardware) Replace PTO latch.
Defective PTO clasp (door side hardware)
Replace clasp. When installing new clasp, adjust the clasp (up,
down, and side to side) to best location prior to heating the
oven.
Defective hinges Replace hinges.
Door force < 14 lbf
Insufficient gasket material under gasket collar
Loosen collar and adjust gasket - inserting more material
beneath the gasket collar.
Damaged or defective door gasket
Replace door gasket. Door gasket accounts for 65% of the
force required to open the door.
Defective PTO latch (oven side hardware) Replace PTO latch.
Defective PTO clasp (door side hardware)
Replace clasp. When installing new clasp, adjust the clasp (up,
down, and side to side) to best location prior to heating the
oven.
Defective hinges Replace hinges.
