Do you have a question about the Summit BIM44GADA and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The device described in this manual is an Automatic Undercounter Ice Maker manufactured by SUMMIT® Appliance. It is designed to produce clear, gourmet cube ice and is suitable for both homeowners and hotel guests. The unit includes an insulated ice storage bin and operates with an external drainage system.

Technical Specifications:

The manual provides specifications for both indoor and outdoor models (BIM44 G / BIM44GADA for indoor, BIM47OS / BIM44GCSS / BIM47OSADA / BIM44GCSSADA for outdoor).

  • Electrical Power: 115V AC ~ 60Hz for all models.
  • Power Consumption: 9.71 kWh/100 lbs of ice for all models.
  • Ice-making / -harvest rated current: 3.0A/4.0A for all models.
  • Refrigerant: R134a, 3.88oz. for all models.
  • High/Low side pressure: 350 psig/130 psig for all models.
  • Width x depth x height: 14¾" x 23¾" x 33½" for all models.
  • Unit weight: 84 lbs for all models.
  • Maximum ice storage: 25 lbs for all models.
  • Ice-making capacity: 50 lbs/day* for all models.
  • Ice shape: Cube for all models.
  • Ice cube dimensions: 7/8" x 7/8" x 7/8" for all models.

*The actual quantity of ice produced per day can vary with room and water conditions.

Usage Features:

The ice maker operates automatically. When the ice storage bin is full of ice cubes, the machine stops making ice. It restarts automatically when the level of ice cubes descends. The unit features LED indicators for different operational states:

  • Bin Full (Red) LED: Indicates the ice storage bin is full. The unit stops working when the bin-full probe is blocked by ice.
  • Ice Making (Green) LED: Indicates the unit is making ice. This is controlled by a temperature probe on the evaporator.
  • Ice Harvest (Yellow) LED: Indicates the unit is in ice harvest mode. This is controlled by the ice-full probe.
  • Mode Button: Allows changes to the ice harvest mode or vice versa. It can be used to adjust the size of the ice cubes.
  • Adjust Button: Used to adjust the ice size. Pressing it for at least 3 seconds enters the Ice Size Adjustment mode. The "HARVEST" LED (yellow) will blink continuously during this mode.

The ice maker offers two types of installation:

  • Mobile (free-standing) installation: Requires access to a water supply.
  • Enclosed (under a cabinet) or Built-in (sealed to the floor) installation: Requires adequate air space at the front of the unit for ventilation.

The door is reversible, allowing it to open from either the left or right side, which can be adjusted by the user. The water supply requires a minimum of 15 psig with a static pressure not more than 80 psig. A water filter is strongly recommended. The drain system can be either an internal drain pump (for units that pump water up to a rise of 1.5m or over a horizontal length of 1.5m) or a gravity drain (for units that drain by gravity).

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning and proper maintenance are essential for efficient performance and long life. The maintenance intervals are based on normal conditions.

What parts should be kept clean:

  1. The exterior
  2. The interior
  3. The condenser
  4. Water distribution tube
  5. The ice-making system

Exterior cleaning:

The door and cabinet can be cleaned with a mild detergent and warm water solution. Stainless steel parts can be discolored by chlorine gas and moisture; use a stainless steel cleaner. Avoid abrasive cleaners.

Interior cleaning:

The ice storage bin should be sanitized periodically. The water trough should be cleaned regularly. Disconnect power before cleaning.

Condenser cleaning:

A dirty condenser reduces ice making capacity and causes higher operating temperatures. Unplug the ice maker, pull off the lower front louver, remove dirt and lint from the condenser with a vacuum cleaner, reassemble the lower front louver, and plug in the ice maker.

Water distribution tube cleaning:

The ice cubes may be incompletely formed or the output may be low if the water distribution tube is blocked. Shut off water supply, disconnect the water hose, gently take out the distribution tube, locate holes, and clean with a brush and mild detergent. Replace the tube and reconnect water supply.

Ice-making system cleaning:

Minerals and hard water can build up in the system. The system should be cleaned every 6 months or more often depending on water hardness.

  1. Ensure all ice is off the evaporator.
  2. Remove all ice from the storage bin.
  3. Connect the ice maker to the water supply.
  4. Pour 8 oz. of Nickel-Safe Ice Maker Cleaner Solution into the water trough.
  5. Press the ON/OFF switch and the CLEAN button. The machine will run in Automatic Clean Mode.
  6. Allow 30 minutes for proper cleaning.
  7. Use a drain hose to drain the water from the trough.
  8. Prepare a sanitizing solution (1 ounce of household bleach and 2 gallons of hot water). Wipe the entire bin inside and outside.
  9. Spray all corners and edges with sanitizing solution.
  10. Allow the solution to be in contact for at least 3 minutes, then dry.
  11. Repeat step 5 to rinse the ice making system one more time.
  12. Press the ON/OFF button again. The machine will return to regular ice making mode. Discard the first batch of ice.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes several safety warnings, including:

  • DANGER: Risk of electric shock. Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet. Do not remove grounding prong.
  • WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Nickel (Metallic) which is known to the State of California to cause cancer.
  • IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS: Always read and obey all safety messages. Do not use an adapter or extension cord. Disconnect power before servicing.
  • Excessive Weight Hazard: Use two or more people to move and install the ice maker to prevent injury.
  • Water Filter: A filter is recommended to remove taste and odors.
  • Location requirements: The unit should be located on a firm and level surface.
  • Electrical requirements: A standard electrical supply (115V AC only, 60Hz, 15A) is required.

The manual includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as the machine not operating, water not feeding, unusual noise, and ice quality problems.
