GEARSHIFT LEVER
This vehicle has a 5-speed trans-
mission which operates as shown
in the illustration. The shift lever is
attached to a ratchet type mecha-
nism in the transmission. Each
time you select a gear, the gear-
shift lever will return to its normal
position ready to select the next
gear. Engage first gear by press-
ing the lever from the neutral posi-
tion. You can shift into higher
gears by lifting on the shift lever
once for each gear. The ratchet
mechanism makes it impossible
to upshift or downshift more than
one gear at a time.
