RUNNING ADJUSTMENTS--Engine
Adjustment
Remove the rocker cover and turn the engine crank with the aid of
the dynamo belt for half a revolution after the valve to be
adjusted has closed. It is easier to do this if the sparking plugs are
removed. This also provides an opportunity for inspecting and
checking the sparking plug gaps.
Slacken the lock nut and adjust the rocker screw with a screwdriver
until the gauge is a sliding fit between the top of the valve stem and
the rocker face.
Now tighten the lock nut and check that the clearance has not
altered.
Ignition Timing
On initial assembly the ignition is set as stated on page
5.

Premium grade fuels of

octane or higher must be used for these engines
and with this fuel, a

However, with a
substantial amount of carbon build up, it may be necessary to retard the
ignition slightly so that

is
only just audible when pulling hard
with the engine speed above

To advance ignition, rotate the knurled screw as indicated.

the belt pulley is in line with the pointer attached to the timing cover.
