Overview

The Tactacam Solo Xtreme is a compact, high-definition camera designed for capturing outdoor activities, particularly hunting and shooting, with ease and precision. Its primary function is to record video, offering various modes to suit different shooting scenarios, from standard recording to slow motion and zoomed perspectives. The camera is built for durability and ease of use, featuring one-touch recording with vibration indication and a water-resistant design.

Function Description

The Tactacam Solo Xtreme is an action camera that records video in various resolutions and frame rates, including 4K at 60fps, 1080p at 120fps, and 720p at 240fps, to ensure smooth playback of fast-paced action. It utilizes a microSD card for storage, with support for cards ranging from 64GB to 128GB, specifically requiring U3 or higher speed class cards for optimal performance.

The camera offers "Quick Change" video modes, which are pre-set for convenience:

  • Green Mode: Standard recording, ideal for general use and low-light conditions.
  • Blue Mode: Zoom mode, designed to bring distant subjects closer.
  • Light Blue Mode: Slow-motion mode, recording at 120fps for detailed playback of shot placement, especially effective with lighted arrow nocks or tracer rounds.

These modes can be customized through the Tactacam Connect app, allowing users to adjust resolution and zoom settings to their preferences. The camera also features a "Blackout Mode," which can be activated via the app. In this mode, all visible lights on the camera are turned off, and the user relies solely on vibration feedback (two vibrations for recording, one for pause) to confirm camera status, maintaining stealth during hunts.

Connectivity is a key feature, with built-in Wi-Fi that allows the camera to connect to the Tactacam Connect app on smartphones or tablets. This enables remote control of the camera, including starting/stopping recording, changing modes, and accessing recorded footage. The camera is also compatible with a Tactacam remote control, offering an alternative method for managing up to five cameras simultaneously, with feedback provided on an LCD screen for connected cameras, record length, and battery life.

For data transfer, the camera can be connected to a computer via a USB-C cable, or the microSD card can be removed and inserted into a card reader. Videos are stored in .mp4 format, and the manual recommends QuickTime Media Player or Adobe Premiere Elements for viewing and editing.

Usage Features

Operating the Tactacam Solo Xtreme is designed to be straightforward:

  • Powering On and Recording: A single push of the Rec/Power button turns the camera on and starts recording, indicated by two vibrations and a blinking green light. The green LED must be blinking for recording to occur.
  • Pausing Recording: A quick push of the Rec/Power button pauses recording, indicated by one vibration and a solid green light.
  • Changing Modes: While paused, modes can be changed by pushing the mode button.
  • Powering Off: Pushing and holding the Rec/Power button for five seconds completely powers off the camera. The camera also features an auto-power-off function after three minutes of inactivity in pause mode to conserve battery.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: To activate Wi-Fi, hold the Mode button (or Rec/Power button on Solo Xtreme) for three seconds while the camera is in pause mode. A blinking blue LED indicates Wi-Fi is on but not connected, while a solid blue LED signifies a successful connection to the app.
  • Date and Time Setting: The camera's date and time are automatically set when connected to the Tactacam app. Manual adjustment is also possible by modifying a text file on the SD card when connected to a computer.
  • Battery Indicator: The camera has four green LED lights that indicate battery level. All four lights mean a full battery, and the last light blinks when the battery drops below 10%.

The camera is designed to be mounted using various accessories, including custom gun mounts, picatinny rails, and universal action camera mounts, providing flexibility for different hunting setups.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of the Tactacam Solo Xtreme:

  • SD Card Management: Always use a U3 or higher microSD card (64-128GB) and format it before first use or after using it in another device. Formatting is crucial for smooth recording and can be done via the Tactacam Connect app or by following instructions for Mac/PC. Regular reformatting is recommended.
  • Water Resistance: The camera is water-resistant, but it's essential to ensure the back cap is closed and locked before use in wet or dirty environments. After use in saltwater, rinse the camera with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth.
  • Cleaning: Before opening the back cap, ensure the camera is free of water or debris. If needed, rinse with water and dry. The lens should be kept clean, free of fingerprints, and if foggy, the back cap should be removed to allow it to dry.
  • Microphone Care: To ensure optimal audio, keep the microphone hole free of water or debris. Shaking or blowing on the mic can help clear obstructions. Crucially, do not insert anything into the mic hole to avoid damage.
  • Battery Care: To maximize battery life, especially in cold conditions, keep the camera warm before use. When storing the camera, charge the battery to 75% or higher and remove it to prevent internal corrosion. The removable battery is replaceable if it fails.
  • Charging: Charge the camera completely before filming. Use the included USB-C cord and a wall outlet or computer. A solid red light indicates charging, and it turns off when fully charged. Only use chargers marked "Output 5V 1A" to avoid damage. The camera can be used while charging via a wall adapter, but not while recording when connected to a computer.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides guidance for common issues, such as the camera not responding (try holding the Rec/Power button for five seconds or removing the battery), not powering on (ensure it's charged), choppy playback (use recommended video players and ensure computer meets minimum requirements), and Wi-Fi connection problems (reset network settings or ensure no other devices are connected).
  • Temperature Management: Avoid exposing the camera to extreme temperatures or dramatic changes in temperature/humidity, as this can affect battery life and cause condensation.
  • Unauthorized Alterations: Do not make any unauthorized alterations to the camera, as this will void the warranty and may compromise safety and performance.
