Because
the
head
assembly
and
the
capstan
are
in
constant
contact
with
the
moving
tape,
dirt
or
residue
f rom
the
tape on
these
parts
will decrease
the
sound
quality'
They
should
be
cleaned
after
every
10
hours
of
use,
as
shown
in
figure
17.
Timer Stand-by
When
the
Play button
is depressed
and
the
power
to the
deck
is off, the
capstan
and
the
pressure
roller
are
station-
ary
and
in
contact
with
each
other.
lf this
condition
is
maintained
for a
long time,
a
flat spot
or
other
unevenness
could
develop
on
the
roller.
The
Timer stand-by
feature
prevents this
from
happening.
lt disengages
the capstan
and
pressure
roller
contact,
when
the
power
is off,
even
though
the
Play button
is depressed.
When
power
is appli-
ed,
and
the
deck
motor starts
to turn,
it
disengages
the
Timer
stand-by
feature
and
allows
the unit
to either
record
or
playback
without
damage
to
the
pressure roller'

timer

the desired
time.

upon
the
type
of
timer,
the
power
to
the amplifier,
tape
deck
and
tuner
will
then be
turned

power
