7.3.4 Connecting headphones
CAUTION! Damage to hearing!
Do not listen to music at a high volume when using headphones. Doing so can
cause permanent hearing damage. Turn down the radio volume to the lowest level
before using headphones.
Only use headphones with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug.
> Insert the headphone plug into the headphone socket on the back of
DIGITRADIO 586. Sound is now played exclusively through the headphones;
the speakers are muted.
> If you would like to use the speakers again, unplug the headphones from the
headphone jack on the radio.
7. 4 General device functionality
Seings and functions can be carried out both using the buons on the device and
with the remote control. The description of the operation in this instruction manual
refers to the buons on the remote control.
7.4.1 Switching the radio on
> You can use the VOLUME/ Knob (2) on the device or On/Standby (1) on
the remote control to switch the device on or back to standby.
Aer switching on for the first time, you can launch the set-up wizard
(Section 18.7). Here you can set the date and time either viaDAB/FM, Internet
or have no update (manual). The device will then aempt to establish a
connection to a WLAN network. To do so, select the corresponding WLAN
network and, if required, enter the WLAN password with the remote control.
7.4.2 Switching the radio o
> You can use the VOLUME/ Knob (2) on the device or On/Standby (1) on
the remote control to switch the device back to standby. The date and time
are shown in the display.
7.4.3 Operating the radio with the remote control
With the infrared remote control you can operate the most important device
functions from the comfort of your armchair. When operating the device with the
remote control, please take into account the following points:
> Point the remote control at the front of the device.
> Visual contact between the transmier and the receiver must be guaranteed.
> If the range of the remote control reduces, replace the baeries.
The maximum range is approximately 5 metres from the front of the device.
