IV, Before Starting Your Engine
A, Checking Oil Level
To avoid engine damage, it is importantto:
• Check oil level every 5 operatinghoursand before
each use. Check oil level more frequently dudng
engine break-in.
• Keep oil level between "FULU' and "ADD" marks
on dipstick or to point of overflow on engines
without dipstick. See Figure 1.
• Insure oil fill cap/plug istightened securely.
NOTES
Do not overfilloil filler. Doing so may result in oil carry-over
to the air cleaner and equipment malfunction or damage.
Do not allow oil level to fall below the "ADD" mark on dip-
stick. Doingsomayresultin equipmentmaffunctionordam-
age.
Contact your Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer for
Tecumseh Oil Part Numbers.
B. Filling Oil Sump
Oil Fill Cap With Dipstick
Ifyour engine has on oilfill cap go to step f. Ifyour engine
has an oil fillplug see "Oil Fill Cap Without Dipstick"
instructions.
1. Be sure engine is updght and level.
2. Unscrew oil fill cap from oil filler tube and wipe dipstick
clean. See Figure 2.
3. Screw oilfill cap back into oilfiller tube, Tighten
securely.
4. Unscrew and remove oil fill cap from oil filler tube. Note
oil level. If oil reading on dipstick is below "ADD" mark,
slowly add oil to reach "FULL" level. See Figure 1.
5. Screw oil fill cap back into oil filler tube. Tighten
securely.
6. Wipe away any spilled oil.
C. Oil Fill Cap Without Dipstick (Oil fill Plug)
If yourengine has an oil fill plug go to step 1. If your engine
has an oil fill cap see "Oil FillCap With Dipstick"instruc-
tions.
1. Be sure engine is upright and level.
2, Clean area around oil fill plug. See Figure 3.
3. Unscrew oil fill plug.
4. Add oil to overflow point, making sure to avoid spilling.
5. Screw oil fill plug back into oil fill hole. Tighten se
curely.
6. Wipe away any spilled oil.
