C. Filling Fuel Tank
Gasoline (fuel) vaporsare highlyflam-
mable and can explode. Fuel vaporscan
spread and be ignitedby a spark or flame many feet away
from engine. To preventinjuryor death from fuel fires, follow
these instructions:
1. Stop engine and allow it to cool before refueling.
2. Be sure engine is outdoors and in a well-ventilated
area.
3. Clean area around fuel fill cap and remove fuel fill cap.
See Figure 2.

Usingan approved redGASOLINE container, add fuel
slowly, being careful to avoid spilling.DO NOT
overfill fuel tank. Leave space in the tank to allow fuel to
expand without overflowing.

Replace fuel fill cap securelyand wipe up spilledfuel
before startingengine. If fuel isspilled DO NOT start
engine.Move machine away from area of spillage.
Avoidcreatingany source of ignitionuntilfuel vapors
are gone,

IJri__ Ifyou are unable tostart thisengine after
following instructionsin this manual,
contact your AuthorizedTecumseh Servicing Dealer. To
avoid sedousbum injudesor damage toyourengine, DO
NOT attempt to start or troubleshootthis engine in any other
way. For example:
• DO NOT use startingfluid.
• DO NOT spray flammable vapors into carburetor or
onto air cleaner.
• DO NOT put flammable liquids into carburetoror
ontoair cleaner.
• DO NOT operate engine or pullon starter ropewith
spark plug removed. Fuel can sprayfrom spark plug
hole and ignite.
This section containsstartinginstructionsfor several
differenttypes of engines. In orderto locate the instructions
that apply toyour engine, first determine what type ofstarter
you have. Ifyou have an electric startersee "A. Engines
with Electdc Starters" instructions.If you have a manual
recoil starter see "B. Engines with Recoil Starters"
instructions.
