Section IV Operating Instructions
Channel 1 and Channel 2 (Read/Write)
Located SETUPMaintenance menu. These controls and indicators should only be used in
a debug process. Most of the indicators are DAC and A/D values. Channel parameters can
also be zeroed at this level. The preferred zero method is to use the ReZero located in the
root Instrument menu.
Heater Circuit (Read Only)
Located SETUPMaintenance menu. These indicators monitor the heater voltage and
current of the 1830A.
Heater Status (Front Panel Indicator)
The Heater Status is located on the front panel and is used to monitor temperature
compensated thermistor sensors.
Heating Sensor is connected correctly and is heating properly
HeatOK Sensor is at proper regulating temperature. See section 4 for details.
HtrN/C Connection between 1830A and Sensor is open or not connected
Max/Min Volts (Read/Write)
Located SETUPMaintenance menu. These controls should be used with cautions because
the set the max and min voltage of the Channel. Defaults are 1.00 V and 4.50 V.
Changing these limits could damage a thermistor mount if not carefully monitored.

Unit In Cal (Read Only)
Located SETUPMaintenance menu. This indicator tells the user that if the 1830A is in
calibration mode.
USB-Serial (Read/Write)
Located SETUPMaintenance menu. The 1830A has two USB 2.0 ports. Only the lower of
the two implements a USB slave mode connection, meaning that only the lower port
should be used for command interfacing. The connectors are Type “A”: a standard A-A
USB cable can be used to connect the 1830A to a PC (TEGAM Part Number CA-14-2M).
The 1830A will enumerate to Microsoft Windows as a serial port. Therefore, software may
interface with the 1830A using simple serial port calls. Additionally, this means that a
simple terminal application may be used to test the interface. The same command set
and command structure are used on all interfaces. When the instrument is in the remote
mode, remote command input has priority over any front panel control. Therefore, as long
as a remote interface is continuously active, the front panel keys will appear to be
inoperative to the user.
