Engine starts, but
will not accelerate
Carburetor needs
adjustment.

will only run at full
throttle with half
choke.
Carburetor needs
adjustment, repair or
cleaning.

full speed and
produces a lot of
smoke.
1. Check fuel mix ratio.
Use new fuel with correct mix ratio.
2. Air filter dirty.
Clean or replace.
3. Carburetor needs
adjustment.
Contact repair shop.
Engine starts, runs
and accelerates, but
will not run in idle.
Carburetor needs
adjustment.
Contact repair shop.
Twine cannot be
extended.
1. Twine melted.
Replace. Trimmer operating too close to
stones and walls.
2. Insufficient twine on
spool.
Fit more twine.
3. Twine worn down.
Advance twine while alternatively
pressing and releasing twine housing.
4. Twine tangled with
spool.
Remove twine from spool, roll on once
more.
5. Engine RPM too low.
Advance twine at full throttle.
Grass getting twisted
around drive shaft
and twine housing.
1. High grass being cut
at ground level.
Cut grass from top and down.
2. Trimmer used at low
RPM.
Use trimmer at high RPM.
Twine spool hard to
turn.
Threads dirty, damaged
or full of grass.
Clean threads, lubricate with grease.
Replace spool if necessary.
Oil dripping from
exhaust.
1. Trimmer used at low
RPM.
Use trimmer at high RPM.
2. Check fuel mix ratio.
Use new fuel with correct 2-stroke mix.
3. Air filter dirty.
Clean or replace.
4. Carburetor needs
adjustment.
Contact repair shop.
