utilizes the original Lahystems' concept of vertical photometry in which the light beam passes
through the whole sample.
In vertical photometry, the absorption of light
is
proportional to the amount
of
light absorbing substance
in
the
well.
Absorption is expressed by the following equation:

The
advantages of
lhe
vertical light path measurement are:
(I)
inaccurate pi ning of nonabsorbing lrquids does not affect the measured absorbance values

a cenaiain degree of inhomogeneity in the solution,

example
as
a result of layering in turbidity
measurements,
