Checking the residual overvoltage function (59N)
This test can be carried out by using a connection scheme as
shown in fig. 44 or 45, with the aim to reproduce the same
connection scheme as is applied in the installation: the fig. 44
shows a connection to the open delta secondary winding of the
VT's, while the fig. 45 shows the connection to a VT without the open
delta secondary.
The test comprises the checking of the operation threshold and
time.

The testing procedure for the checking of the operation
threshold is :
- initially set the residual voltage to zero;
- apply instantaneously a residual voltage value equal to 95%
of the preset threshold and make sure that no protection trip
occurs;
- set the voltage at zero;
- apply instantaneously a voltage value equal to 105% of the
above thershold and make sure that the protection trip occurs;
- lower the voltage to a value lower than the threshold and
observe the protection reset.
It must be pointed out that if the trip time is programmed on a
high value, the check of the trip threshold may turn out to be
difficult. In this case it may be better to temporarily lower the setting
of the aforesaid time, or to program a final relay on the START
function.
Verifica funzione di massima tensione residua (59N)
Questa prova può essere eseguita mediante lo schema ripor-
tato in fig. 44 o 45, allo scopo di riprodurre la medesima configu-
razione di collegamento dell'impianto: la fig. 44 rappresenta il
caso di collegamento al secondario a triangolo aperto del TV,
mentre la fig. 45 rappresenta il caso di collegamento a un TV privo
di secondario a triangolo aperto.
La prova consiste nella verifica della soglia e del tempo
d'intervento.
1 - Collegamento da secondario a triangolo aperto (fig. 44)
La procedura di prova per la verifica della soglia d'intervento
è la seguente:
- azzerare inizialmente la tensione residua;
- applicare istantaneamente un valore di tensione residua pari
al 95% della soglia impostata e osservare che non ci sia intervento
della protezione;
- azzerare la tensione;
- applicare istantaneamente un valore di tensione pari al 105%
della soglia di cui sopra e osservare che ci sia l’intervento della
protezione;
- abbassare la tensione ad un valore inferiore alla soglia e
osservare il ripristino della protezione.
Occorre segnalare che se il tempo d'intervento è programmato
su un valore elevato, la verifica della soglia d'intervento può
risultare disagevole. In tal caso può essere preferibile diminuire
temporaneamente la taratura del suddetto tempo, oppure pro-
grammare un relè finale sulla funzione di START.
