Why won't my TLD GPU-406 engine reach or maintain rated speed after pressing the RED, YELLOW, or GREEN buttons?

This issue can arise from several factors: * If the screen displays “Aircraft Rejected AC Power, No EF Signal,” the GCM isn't receiving the EF control signal from the aircraft, so check and repair the connections. Power quality might also be unacceptable to the aircraft, so check for faulty connections in the generator control circuit. * If the screen shows a power fault signal (frequency, voltage, or overload), check for anything that may change the output of the GPU, such as faulty connections, faulty sensing components (current transformers), bad grounding, or generator damage. If overloaded, reduce the load from the aircraft. * If the screen displays “28VDC CIRCUIT OVERHEATED”, allow the unit to cool for 10 minutes and reduce the load on the 28VDC circuit. * If the screen disp...

First, check the sensing wires for all 3 phases of the generator output, ensuring all phases are correctly wired. If the unit is TR equipped, check the DC voltage sensing wire. Repair any loose connections or faulty wiring. Then, inspect the neutral sensing connection to the distribution block from the GCM, and if TR-equipped, ensure the output negative is grounded to the generator. Also, check the connections between the GCM Field + and Field – terminals and the exciter + and – terminals, correcting the wiring if necessary. If the engine is not running at rated speed, this may require maintenance or repair. If these steps don't solve the issue, the GCM or the generator exciter might be faulty and require replacement; the resistance between the exciter + and – terminals should be about 10 ...
