Why is my TOHATSU Outboard Motor engine failing to start?
- DDavid HamiltonAug 12, 2025
If your TOHATSU Outboard Motor engine fails to start, there are several potential causes. First, ensure that the fuel tank is filled. Then, check the fuel system connections for any issues. Inspect the fuel line for air leaks, and replace any deformed or damaged fuel pipes. Make sure the air vent on the fuel tank is open. Additionally, a clogged fuel filter, fuel pump, or carburetor can prevent starting, so clean these components. Other factors include using the recommended engine oil and the correct type of gasoline, adjusting the oil mixture to avoid excessive or insufficient oil, adjusting the fuel supply to prevent excessive fuel, and adjusting the carburetor. Finally, a broken recirculation pipe can also cause starting issues, so replace it if necessary.
