This document is an operations and maintenance manual for the Tornado CK LW 13/1 8 LB. Lightweight Vacuum, models 97130 (115V) and 97131 (230V). It provides instructions for commercial use, safety guidelines, product features, and troubleshooting.

Function Description

The Tornado CK LW 13/1 8 LB. Lightweight Vacuum is a commercial-grade cleaning system designed for effective and safe cleaning of all types of carpets, wood, linoleum, and vinyl floors. It utilizes a Dual Suction System for powerful cleaning and is specifically designed to pick up dirt, dry debris, and dust in indoor environments. The vacuum is not intended for picking up fluids or dangerous/toxic materials. Its wide 14-inch Powerfoot facilitates quick and easy cleaning.

Maintenance Features

  • Dust Bag Replacement: Check weekly and replace when full or when suction diminishes. Never reuse a Dust Bag. To replace, unplug the vacuum, unzip the Cloth Bag, remove the collar retainer by pressing tabs, dispose of the old bag, slide the new bag's collar into the retainer, secure it, and tuck the bag flat inside the Cloth Bag.
  • Dust Tube Cleaning: Routinely check and clear excess dust and debris for optimal performance. Involves releasing the Bag Tension Spring, removing the Filter Cover, unplugging the Connector Plug, and pressing the Tube Release Button to lift off the Dust Tube. A wire brush can be used to clean the inside.
  • Filter Cleaning: The post-motor HEPA filter is located in the Powerfoot and should be checked and cleaned when dirty. To clean, remove the screw, lift out the filter cover, remove the filter, blow it out with air, and then reinstall.
  • Rotating Cleaning Brush and Drive Belt Maintenance: Check regularly for wear or damage. Keep the brush ends free of string, hair, and carpet fibers. The brush can often be cleaned without removal, but for excessive debris, it can be removed. To remove, unplug the vacuum, turn it face down, remove 3 screws from the Powerfoot bottom, lift off the Top Cover, and then pull the right side of the brush toward the front of the Powerfoot while lifting slowly. The Drive Belt can be replaced if broken or damaged.
  • Light Bulb Replacement: Unplug the vacuum, insert a flat-tipped screwdriver into slot A to remove the light lens, grasp and pull out the old bulb, replace with a new one, and replace the light lens.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides a table of possible causes and remedies for common issues such as the vacuum not running, not picking up dirt, or dust accumulation inside the Cloth Bag.

Safety Instructions

  • Read and understand all instructions before use.
  • Use only manufacturer's recommended attachments and accessories.
  • Do not leave unattended when plugged in; unplug when not in use or before servicing.
  • Avoid outdoor use or use on wet surfaces to prevent electric shock.
  • Do not allow children to use as a toy; close attention is necessary when used near children.
  • Do not use with a damaged cord or plug.
  • Do not pull or carry by cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or run the appliance over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
  • Unplug by grasping the plug, not the cord.
  • Do not handle the plug or appliance with wet hands.
  • Turn off all controls before unplugging.
  • Do not put objects into openings; keep openings free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
  • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all body parts away from openings and moving parts.
  • Do not pick up burning or smoking items.
  • Do not use without a vacuum bag and/or filters in place.
  • Use extra care when cleaning stairs.
  • Do not pick up flammable or combustible liquids.
  • Do not attempt to service the unit while plugged in.
  • For grounded models, connect to a properly grounded outlet only.
  • Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the machine when in use.
  • Always turn OFF the Power Switch and unplug the Power Source Plug before performing maintenance or troubleshooting. Never pull on the Power Cord to unplug.
  • Plastic bags can be dangerous; keep away from babies and children.
