TestingtheFuelStopSolenoid(InPlace)(continued)
4.Useadigitalmultimeter,touch1testleadtothepullcoilterminalandthe
othertestleadtothefuelstopsolenoidframe(ground)(Figure167).The
resistanceofthepullcoilshouldbelessthan1ohm(butnotzero).
5.Useadigitalmultimeter,touch1testleadtotheholdcoilterminalandthe
othertestleadtothefuelstopsolenoidframe(ground)(Figure167).The
resistanceoftheholdcoilshouldbeapproximately15ohms.
6.Replacethefuelstopsolenoidifthetestingdeterminesthatitisdamaged.
7.Connectthewireharnessconnectortothefuelstopsolenoid.
8.Lowerthehoodandlatchit.
TestingtheFuelStopSolenoid(Live)
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck,settheparking
brake,shutofftheengine,andremovethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
2.Unlatchthehoodandraiseit.
3.Locatethefuelstopsolenoidontheengineanddisconnectthewireharness
connectorfromthesolenoid.
Note:Thesolenoidcanberemovedfromtheengineortestedinplace.
4.Ifthesolenoidisremovedfromtheengine,ensurethatthesolenoidplunger
movesfreelyandisfreeofdirt,unwantedmaterial,andcorrosion.
Note:Whentestingtherunsolenoid,usetestleadswithatleast14gauge
wire.
5.Connectapositive(+)testleadfroma12VDCsourcetothepullcoiland
holdcoilterminals.
6.Touchanegative(-)testleadfromthe12VDCsourcetothefuelstop
solenoidframe(ground)(Figure167).Thesolenoidshouldengage,making
anaudibleclick,andtheplungershouldretract.
7.Removepositive(+)voltagefromthepullcoilterminal.Thesolenoidshould
stayengaged.
8.Removepositive(+)voltagefromtheholdcoilterminal.Thesolenoidshould
release.
9.Replacethefuelstopsolenoidifthetestingdeterminesthatitisdamaged.
10.Connectthewireharnessconnectortothefuelstopsolenoid.
11.Lowerthehoodandlatchit.
